Mark Stitzel Obituary

Mark Wm. Stitzel Mark Wm. Stitzel, 72, of Perry Twp., passed away on Saturday, April 17, 2021 in his residence. Born in West Reading, he was the son of the late P. William and Esther K. (Moll) Stitzel. Mark was a 1967 graduate of Hamburg Area High School. He was the former owner of Mark Wm. Stitzel Farms. Mark was a farmer on the family farm in Perry Twp. He previously worked for Stitzel Farm Equipment. Mark was a life member of Loyal Order of Moose #523, Hamburg and was a Moose Legionnaire. He received his Fellowship Degree in 1997 and became a Pilgrim in 2004. Mark was also a member of the 25 club of the Moose, having sponsored 25 new members. He was a life member of the Virginville Grange, and the Leesport and Shoemakersville Fire Companies. He was a member of the Strausstown Gun Club, Meadowbrook Country Club, and Jonestown, Mt. Pleasant, Shartlesville, Oley and Lower Alsace Fire Companies. Mark was a member of various pool teams throughout the years, including Laureldale AA, Meadowbrook, Oley Fire Company, Ollie’s Tavern and Alsace Manor Fire Company. While Mark played pool for the Hamburg Moose, he and his partner were State doubles champions and also earned a third place spot. Mark worked for Perry Township for fifty years and was a township supervisor for thirty years. He was also Perry Township roadmaster for many years. Mark was dedicated to Perry Twp., Berks Co. and local government across the state. He was a member of the Berks County Association of Township Supervisors and served many municipalities through the Center for Excellence in Local Government. Mark served on the CELG Community Advisory Board, the Berks Municipal Partnership, the CELG Dinner committee, and was involved with the selection of the Annual Trostle Award. He was also on the Resolutions Committee for the PSATS. Mark enjoyed snowmobiling and throwing quoits. Mark is survived by his children: Mark W. Stitzel, Jr., husband of Melanee (Kershner), Hamburg; and Yvonne M. Stitzel, Perry Twp.; and six grandchildren: Sgt. Colby Scheffler, husband of Morgan, Corey Scheffler, Chloee Stitzel, Carlee Stitzel, Cassie Stitzel and Everly. He is also survived by a brother: Larry D. Stitzel, husband of Debra (MIller), Round Hill, Virginia. He was predeceased by a sister: Barbara J. (Stitzel) Zook. A viewing will be held on Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 65 S. 4th Street, Hamburg (off street parking in rear).
