Martha Wenger Obituary


Martha Geiger Wenger, age 93, of Garden Spot Village, New Holland, Lancaster County, went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 12, 2013. Baptized Anna

Martha Geiger, she always went by Martha, her mother's sister's name.

Martha was born in Weavertown, PA, the daughter of Victor DeTurk and Edna Kline Geiger. In 1937, she graduated from the former Amity High School.

Formerly of Amity Twp., Martha became the wife of George L. Wenger and they shared 64 years together, until his death in 2004. In the late 1950s she was a Campfire Girls leader as well as a choir mother at church. She was a hostess at Fegley's Restaurant in Exeter Twp for 25 years. Martha was also a notary public. Martha enjoyed cooking, sewing and crocheting. She was a lifetime member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Amityville.

Martha and George lived in Berks County until 1996, when they moved to Garden Spot Village retirement community in New Holland. In July 2010, Martha moved from her cottage to a personal care apartment in Mountain View.

She is survived by her son, George Jr. and his wife, Dale, of Spartanburg, SC, and her daughter, Joyce Baker, wife of Jere, of Lancaster County. She is also survived by three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Irvin, Clyde, William and Charles, and a sister, Grace Geiger Herbein.

Funeral services will be in the Dengler Funeral Home, Inc., 144 N. Spruce St., Birdsboro, PA on Friday, March 15, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. A viewing will be held on Friday, from 10:30-11:00 a.m. Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery, Amityville, PA

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the memorial fund of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 1312 Old Swede Road, Douglassville, PA 19518 or to Hospice & Community Care, 685 Good Drive, P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604.

Dengler Funeral Home, Inc., Birdsboro, PA is in charge of the arrangements.
