Michael Pfennig Obituary

Michael Albert Pfennig passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully in his home in Ruscombmanor Township, on Saturday August 7, 2021.  He was 60 years old. Michael was born on October 12, 1960 in Reading, PA.  He married the love of his life, Pam Pfennig in 1981 and recently celebrated their 40 year wedding anniversary in June 2021. He was a proud United States Navy veteran from 1981 through 1984.  Mike was stationed in Norfolk, VA aboard the USS John. F. Kennedy Aircraft Carrier, where he served as a Machinist Mate Second Class (E-5).  Following his service in the U.S. Navy, Pam and Mike returned to Berks County where they continued to raise their children. Michael worked through the ranks at the Titus Station in Birdsboro, PA, most recently the Station Supervisor from 2013 until it closed in 2016. Mike was passionate about his positions at Titus and made lifelong friends who meant the world to him.  Mike put his heart and soul into his time at Titus and considered it his “dream job.” Michael struggled with the plant closure in 2016, after working there for more than 32 years. Michael enjoyed many hobbies over the years.  He loved spending time building and drag racing his Ford Mustang GT. He rekindled his interest in music later in life and played the guitar in multiple bands, most recently Chronic Cure.  His love for boating started young and continued through adulthood.  He was happiest boating on the Chesapeake Bay with his wife, Pam. Michael formed many strong friendships through his hobbies and interests. In addition to his loving wife, Pam Pfennig, Michael is survived by his father, Albert Pfennig and stepmother, Jane Pfennig of Reinholds, PA, and his mother Kathleen Mertz of Muhlenberg, PA.  He is also survived by his cherished children, his son, Jason M. Pfennig married to Amy Pfennig of Muhlenberg, PA, and daughter, Heather J. Wamsher, married to Scott Wamsher of Leesport, PA.  Michael adored his grandchildren Noah Wamsher, 16, and Reece Wamsher, 12, both of Leesport, PA.  Michael is also survived by his siblings, Tim Pfennig, married to Doris Pfennig, Teresa Hope, married to Phil Hope, and Marjory Pfennig; and step siblings Deborah Mitchell, married to Alex Mitchell, David Borden, married to Ranae Borden, Donald Borden, married to Maureen Borden, Jimmy Borden, and John “Jeb” Borden.  He was predeceased by his grandparents Katherine and Paul Malriat, whom he was very close to while they were living.  Mike loved his dog, Cabo and often would not leave the house without her.  A funeral Service will be held Friday at 10 am at Stitzel Funeral Home, 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale. A viewing will be held from 8:30 until the time of the service. Burial will be at Berks Memorial Gardens immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516. For online condolences, visit www.StitzelFamilyFuneralHomes.com.

Pam, Pfennig families,

I was shocked and saddened to learn of Mike's sudden passing. I remember him well from our early days at SV on the wrestling team and spending time at his house near the potato farm. Please know that thoughts and prayers of family and friends are with you all.

Sincerely,

Brian Huber
