Born, November 27, 1958, in the Reading Hospital, she was the daughter to Raymond (Ted) Leas and Dorothy (Dot) Leas of Spring Township.
Nancy was the Homecoming Queen of Wyomissing High School, graduating in 1976. She continued on to the University of Delaware, graduating in 1980 with a double major in Chemistry and Food Science.
She was married for 33 years to her high school
sweetheart, Frederick M. Nice, who she dated seven years before marriage.
Nancy began her career at MDS Laboratories in Reading, Pennsylvania, doing primarily toxicology work. After
getting married, she moved to Silver Spring, Maryland, and worked at Litten Bionetics Research Division doing AIDS research on rhesus monkeys in a joint project with the
National Institute of Health.
Upon returning to Reading, Nancy became a
microbiology Supervisor at Dietrich Milk Products,
checking for pathogens in milk powder and expanding an experimental division in powdered flavors for the snack
industry.
After raising a family, Nancy became certified in
Elementary Education from Alvernia University.
Throughout her life, Nancy was an exercise fanatic and fitness buff, working out daily and enjoying tennis, golf and skiing. Nancy also enjoyed traveling with family and friends including trips throughout the United States and to Europe, China and the Caribbean and a very special family trip to Bermuda.
Nancy was very talented and creative, including her green thumb and passion for gardening and landscaping as well as cooking, home decorating and making floral
arrangements. She enjoyed sewing and even made her own wedding dress and the wedding dresses of both of her
sisters. She also re-upholstered all kinds of furniture,
including chairs and couches and enjoyed painting and decorating the house for the holidays.
Nancy was a member of the Berkshire Country Club and a former member of the Junior League of Reading and Treasurer of the Reading Garden Club.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, Fred, are her two sons, Maxwell C. Nice, and his wife, Megan, of Exeter Township, and her son, Phillip A. Nice, of Carnegie,
Pennsylvania. She is also survived by her beloved dog, Cooper, who changed her life forever.
Also surviving are her two sisters, Jennifer L. Jacobson, Exeter, Pennsylvania, and Catherine L. Chang, Columbia, Maryland.
At Nancy's request, she has been cremated and all
services will be private.

My memories of Nancy & Fred's 1976 Wyo classmates came flooding back to me with image after image of happy, vibrant teenagers starting out in life. Now, after what seems only a moment in time, my condolences must go out to Fred's friends and family on hearing the terrible news of Nancy's passing. Words simply ring hollow at a time like this. I lament and grieve along with all who were a part of Nancy's life.
