Richard Steffan Obituary

Richard Rudolph Steffan Richard Rudolph Steffan, 95, of Blandon passed away, peacefully at home on Friday, May 21st.He is the son of the late Rudolf E Steffan and Jeanette (Coomans) Steffan. He was married to his wife, Betty Jean (Schleer) Steffan, 92 for 72 years. Born in Chicago, Illinois he moved with his family to Irvington, NJ when he was 9 months old. He graduated from Irvington High School and enlisted in the United States Navy at the age of 17. He was a radar man on a Patrol Craft Escort in World War II. He graduated from Lafayette College in 1950 with a Degree in Geology and Math and started his career with the Hudson Coal Company. He retired from Crean Brothers which, at the time of his retirement, was the largest independent fuel dealer in Philadelphia, serving as President of the company. Surviving along with his wife are two sons, Robin J. Steffan and wife Beth, of Karthus, PA ; Todd R. Steffan and wife Linda also of Karthus, PA; daughter, Lauren E. (Steffan) Kleinbach and husband Fred, of East Greenville; nephews, James Frazee, John Schleer, niece, Barbara (Schleer) Schremp, 12 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Joanne Steffan and a sister, Elaine (Steffan) A private family service and burial will be held at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery with full navy military honors.
