Ruth L. Levan

Ruth L. Levan, 79, Laureldale and formerly of Riverside, died Aug. 23, 2007, at 3:57 a.m. in Berks Heim, where she had resided since April.

Born July 25, 1928, in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Edgar and Bessie (Wertz) Legler.

A 1946 graduate of Reading High School, Ruth loved to sing and was a former member of Reading Chapter of Sweet Adelines. She enjoyed cooking and baking, and truly loved entertaining her friends.

A former church counsel president, she was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Reading.

In later years, Ruth was employed by Giorgio Mushrooms, Blandon, and CNA Insurance, Reading, until her retirement in 1993.

Surviving is a daughter, Bonnie, Laureldale; and a beloved cat Meggie.

Other survivors include a brother-in-law, Reynold Bittle; and several cousins, nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was predeceased by four brothers: Edgar, George, Leroy and John Legler; and three sisters: Katherine (Legler) Kramer, E. Jean (Legler) Bittle and Helen Legler.

Services will begin Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Theo C. Auman Funeral Home, 247 Penn St., Reading, with the Rev. Robin Henry officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park. Friends may call Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 9 to 10 a.m. in the funeral home. A memorial service will be Sept. 1 at 11 a.m. in Peace Lutheran Church, Reading.
