Samuel Matthew Obituary


Samuel R. Matthew, 83, of Bern Township, passed away Saturday, June 22, at Reading Hospital and Medical Center, West Reading.

Samuel was born in Millbach, Lebanon County, on August 10, 1929, a son of the late Verna (Arzbaecher) and Samuel D. Matthew.

He was the husband of Jean K. (Bryant) Matthew.

He worked as a carpenter and foreman for F. "Rit" Heller for 25 years.

Samuel is also survived by two daughters, Donna Matthew, of Fort Myers Beach, FL and Diane Matthew, of Muhlenberg Township; two stepdaughters, Kathryn, wife of James Suppan, of Chester Springs and Stephanie Carlson, of Womelsdorf. He is also survived by grandson, Barry Matthew; great-grand-daughter Madison Matthew; and four stepgrandchildren: Nicholas Carlson, Amanda Stufflet, Dawn Suppan, and Tristan Suppan.

Religious service from the Sanders Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 1501 North 11th Street, Reading, at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 27, with The Reverend Paul Jones officiating. Friends are invited to call Thursday 12:30-1:30 p.m. from the funeral home. Interment at Berks County Memorial Gardens, Maidencreek Township.
