(Schappell) Burkey to whom he was
married 40 years.
Tom was born in Butler Township, (Schuylkill County) and was the son of the late Clifton Joseph Potts who died in the Battle of the Bulge, and Jean R. (Martin) Markert, of Tilden Township and was predeceased by his adopted
father, John Burkey.
Tom graduated from Hamburg High School in 1962, graduated from Charles Morris Price School of Advertising, Philadelphia and attended Temple University for one year.
He was employed as a security guard at the Services
Center, Reading from where he retired. Tom was a member of Salem (Belleman's) Church, Mohrsville and was a 50 year member of Vaux Lodge # 406 F&A.M., Hamburg.
In addition to his mother and spouse, Tom is survived by a sister, Karen M., wife of John Locke, Frackville; two nephews, Kerry and John; niece, Karen; great-nephew, Brock; great-nieces: Donielle, Samantha and Rachael;
step-brother, William R., husband of Linda Markert; and step-sister, Joan (Markert), wife of Carl Hilpl.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 30 at 11:00 a.m. from the Burkey & Driscoll Funeral Home, Inc. 40 S. 4th Street, Hamburg. A viewing will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Masonic services will be held at 10:45 a.m. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Hamburg. Online condolences may be expressed at

I worked with Tom at Dan Phelps Buick and then at the Service Center. He was funny and a very nice person. He will be missed.
