Thomas Remo Obituary

Remo, Thomas M.

Thomas M. Remo, 74, died early Monday morning, August 11, 2014, in his home from complications of Parkinson's Disease.

Tom was born November 20, 1939 in Fond du Lac, WI to parents M.W. "Bunch" (1908-1977) and Vivian L. (1913-1982) Remo. He graduated from Goodrich High School in the Class of 1958, and went on to attend Drake University in Des Moines, IA.

Tom was actively engaged in his community, using his artistic talents to promote Fond du Lac. He created the first Walleye Weekend poster and successive posters for many years. He was instrumental in producing special tourism events such as the Fall Flyway, Sports Olympics, the Mini Grand Prix, the American X-C Ski Classic and Winter Celebration. He designed campaigns for The Wildlife Art Capital of the World, The Taste of Fond du Lac, and the Fond du Lac Sesquicentennial. He created the Wildlife art series of eight paintings featuring prominent Fond du Lac landmarks.

Friends and business associates remember Tom's years at Remo Printing where he was also owner/publisher of The Fond du Lac Times and marketing manager of The Rural Farmer. He was president of Metalgraphics, Inc. and creative director of Cooking For Profit Magazine. His professional career also included work as a graphic artist and partner for The Design House in Elm Grove, president of M.A. Garett in Menomonee Falls, and program director for the Franklin Mint in Franklin Center, PA.

Cooking, gardening, sailing and traveling to cycling events with his family were his favorite pastimes. Painting and sculpting were his life's passions.

He is survived by his wife, Colleen Phalen-Remo; son, Thomson Remo; daughters, Kassandra (Igor) Steinberg, Brigitte (Jeff) Pyzyk, Sabrina Ruland, and Jennifer (Josh) Merens; brother, John W. (Jean) Remo, M.D. of West Lafayette, IN.; brother-in-law, Richard (Jeanne) Phalen of Mequon, WI; eleven grandchildren: Joel and Leah Steinberg, Ted, TJ and Ana Pyzyk, Kael, Kate and Erin Ruland, Jaden and Jake Merens, and Noelle Cangson; niece, Jessica Remo, nephews Jeremy Remo, Will (Anna) Phalen, and Joey Phalen.

Visitation: Family will receive relatives and friends Monday, August 18, 2014, from 4:00 to 6:15 p.m at Zacherl Funeral Home, 875 E. Division St. in Fond du Lac; followed by a Memorial Celebration at 6:30 p.m.

Tom donated his brain to Parkinson's Disease research. Please direct memorial donations to the Davis Phinney Foundation for Parkinson's Disease, and The Parkinson Research Institute.

For the short 1 1/2 years that I helped care for Tom at home....we had some very interesting conversations. He was a grand and kind and talented man and will be missed by many!!
REST IN PEACE TOM!!
