He was the husband of Doris J. (Buchalter) Worley. They were happily married for 63 years.
Born in Reading, PA, he was a son of the late James and Minnie (Snyder) Worley.
Wendell was a 1944 graduate of the former Mohnton High School, where he was awarded varsity letters in track and soccer.
He was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps.
He was a member of the P.O.S. of A., Washington Camp #211 in Mohnton, PA. Wendell was a member of Zion Evangelical Congregational Church in Mohnton, where he served as senior choir director from 1955 until 1975. He worked at Clover Farms Dairy until his retirement in 1989.
Entertaining people through the sound of barbershop music, Wendell was a dedicated member of the Pretzel City Chorus of Reading for many years. He also had a passion for history. He was a descendant of Henry Worley, a gun-barrel maker along the Wyomissing Creek in the 1800s, and Henry H. Worley, who, along with his brothers Wesley M. and Ellis M., formed the firm of Worley Brothers, owners of Worley Brothers' Hat Factory, formerly located at the corner of Woodland and Wyomissing Avenues in Mohnton, PA.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters: Susan G. (Worley), wife of Robert E. Abrams, of Cherry Hill, N.J., and Greta J. (Worley), wife of Jeffrey A. Shanely, of Brecknock Twp.; and a son, Keith A., husband of Christina M. Worley, of Cumru Twp. There are four grandchildren: Jacqueline (Abrams) Manzer, Derek Shanely, Ryan Shanely and Angela Worley.
Other survivors include a brother, H. Ernest Worley, of Newmanstown, PA, and a sister, Miriam, widow of Wendell Kern, of Mohnton.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his memorial service on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Giles & Yeckley Funeral Home and Crematorium, Inc., 21 Chestnut Street, Mohnton, PA, with Pastor James F. Price, officiating. Friends may greet the family to offer their condolences on Saturday from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
Burial will be private.
