He joined the U.S. Army and served until January 1970, spending a one year tour of duty in Vietnam. He served in the Military Police as a patrol supervisor and later as an instructor at the Military Police School in Fort Gordon, Georgia. From 1971 to 1975 he served as a police officer in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
Accepted as a seminarian candidate for the Diocese of Santa Rosa he entered St. Joseph College Seminary, Mountain View, California to begin his studies for the priesthood. I worked with Fr. Ted when he was at St. Mary's in Ukiah. He had a heart of gold and was very good to those who needed help. He also liked to give me a little "SCARE" treatment when he would ride his motorcycle into the school yard when the children were out playing. OF COURSE all the students wanted to see his "latest gadget" and learn how it worked. He loved a good joke and always had a happy disposition. I pray for his peace and God's loving consolation for all his family who he loved deeply.

I met Fr. Ted after I moved back to Lakeport. He helped me with some problems at that time. Often his sermons would answer questions I had. I was also a "Mommy sitter" for his mother, Patricia, for a year and a half and got to know him as a kind considerate son.
Besides having a great sense of humor, Fr. was always true to his beliefs and "told it like it was". I appreciated his honesty and dedication to his parish, his parishioners, his community, by visiting the hospitals and jails and patroling the park with Rosie, and his country, with his involvement in honoring our fallen Firefighters and Policemen and starting the Viet Nam Veterans group.
I miss seeing he and Daisy around town.
God Bless you, Father. I will never forget you. Rest in Peace.
Much love.

Father Red was the most wonderful man who was down to earth and had a great sense of humor. He would come into the hospital make us all laugh. I've never seen a clergy be so dedicated to visiting church members in the hospital daily. He would come by, with or without his dogs. He took a personal interest in his parishioners health and wellness. He would pray for anyone who requested it, and comfort people he never knew before in their hour of crisis. God's wings and God's spped.
