Alfred Sprude Obituary
He was born on July 17, 1937, in Riga, Latvia the son of the late John and Katrine (Klieve) Sprude. Alfred immigrated to the United States at the age of 13 by way of sponsorship through the Dedelstorf Camps in Germany and settled in Meriden, where he lived most of his life before moving to Vernon. He attended Trinity Lutheran Church in Vernon, and the Our Savior Lutheran Church of Zephyrhills, Fla. where he lived for four years.
He is survived by two sons, John Sprude of Vernon, and Jon Gariepy and his wife, Lorrie of Branford; four daughters, Christina Bedus of Zephyrhills, Fla., Kathrine Sprude of Brattleboro, Vt., Linda Kelly of West Hartford, and Annette Colegrove and her husband, Brian of Vernon. He is also survived by his former wife, Janet Sprude of Vernon, who remained devoted to him to the end; eight grandchildren, Paul Aresco, Katrina Sprude, Ryan Herget, Christopher Herget, Alicia Sprude, Daniel Herget, Daniel Sprude, and Justin Bedus; two great-grandchildren.
There are no calling hours. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 4, at 10 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 20 Meadowlark Rd., Vernon. Alfred will be buried in Walnut Grove Cemetery in Meriden immediately following the service. Memorial donations in Alfred's memory may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 20 Meadowlark Rd., Vernon, CT 06066.
