Amy Barker Obituary

Amy Joy Barker peacefully passed away on January 23, 2024, at the age of 67 at her home in Pompano Beach, Florida, in the arms of her beloved niece, Alivia. Born and raised in Meriden, CT, Amy was a beautiful soul, always caring for others and devoted to her love of folk music and playing guitar. Sadly, after nearly 5 years of battling breast cancer, Amy was no longer able to fight this dreaded disease.

Amy is survived by her brother Gerry and wife Debbi, of Cheshire, CT; Steven and wife Susan, of Old Saybrook, CT; and her sister, Adrienne Barker Anctil and husband Alan Anctil, of Daytona Beach, FL. In addition, Amy is survived by her devoted nieces and nephews, Alivia, Max and Harrison Barker; Sophia Barker; Alex and Corie Coleman; Samuel and Juliane Coleman; Rudy Barker; Alanna Anctil; Makiela and Axel Coleman; and her cherished great-nephew, Chai Barker. Amy also had many special friends- Sheila, Bob, Kevin, Jan, Neil, Pearl, Caren, Robin, Jill, Liz, Avery, Julie, Ed, Bill, Jason, Merle, Roxanne, Renee, Shawn, among many others.

Amy worked for over 30 years as the president of Multiprints in Meriden, one of the first screen printing businesses in the USA. Amy attended public schools in Meriden and graduated from Simon's Rock High School in Great Barrington, MA and from Barnard College in NYC, class of 1978. Amy was the eldest child of the late Gloria and Herb Barker, parents who loved her dearly.

Amy will be remembered for her athleticism, her dry wit, her brilliance, and her love of family. A celebration of life for Amy is being planned for this summer. Memorial donations may be made to the Jewish Federation of Greater New Haven, or the music therapy program at Abilities without Boundaries. Amy's family would like to thank Trustbridge Hospice Care of Florida for their compassionate attention.

We hope our beloved Amy rests in peace, and may her memory be a blessing for all who knew her.

Thank you for this beautiful obit and for taking caring of Amy. She and I met when we were in high school in New England. We also shared an apartment in New York when we were at Barnard College. She was the maid of honor when Paul and I were married in California. I have so many fond memories of her extravangant tall tales, her comic routines, her way with words, her clear insights, even in her final weeks in this world in which she fought hard to stay. She was profoundly loyal to friends and family. May her memory be a blessing.

I am Amy´s baby sister and though we were not as close as we used to be, I remember every conversation we have had, often multiple times during the day and night. I especially enjoyed talking politics with Amy. Amy taught me how music matters and turned me on to beautiful Joni Mitchell. Amy was always thoughtful and when she went away to school often called or sent me letters or cards. They always meant so much to me! Amy was incredibly intelligent and I learned something new from each of our conversations. I wish i could turn back time but I am very grateful to have visited Amy a few times and the opportunity to speak with Amy to learn more about Amy and ask questions of particular events in Amys life. Love you big Sis! You have made a profound contribution in my life!

Amy and I were not only first cousins but great friends. We spoke on a weekly basis and laughed until we cried !!! It was like a competition to see which one of us were going to wet our pants first.
She was one of the most brilliant people I knew. Whether it be science , math or "just help me get this "....., Amy had the answer. Hours on the phone seemed like minutes. And believe me there were HOURS. I will miss our conversations so much !! You were a huge part of my life from childhood on. You will remain in that part forever !!

I was 8 years old when my family moved to Connecticut and I got to meet my new cousins in the Barker family.
Amy was always so very nice.
We only live there for one year but I got to visit with her when she was visiting her Parents Hollywood Florida.
I am so shocked to hear this news and hope that she is at peace now....
