Barbara Biafore Obituary

Barbara (Townsend) Biafore, 65, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Friday, November 19, 2021, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's Dementia.

Barbara was born October 26, 1956, in Meriden, CT to the late Dwight and Phyllis Townsend. She was the youngest of five daughters, a lifelong resident of Meriden and parishioner at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. She graduated from Orville H. Platt High School in 1974, where she met her husband Jack Biafore, to whom she was happily married to for 43 years. Barbara worked beside her husband as his administrative assistant for John J. Biafore & Son for 25 years.

In addition to her husband, Barbara is survived by her five daughters; Katherine (Eric) Lopez, Mary (Kristopher) Vernon, Elizabeth (Ryan) Skitromo, Abigail (Taylor) Norton and Margaret (Anthony) Perez and 14 grandchildren: Eric and Elliana Lopez, Kayla, Sadie and Kooper Vernon, Gabriel, Luke and Jude Skitromo, Logan and Rowan Norton and Caleb, Cameron, Hadley and Amelia Perez. She is also survived by her four sisters: Phyllis Shapiro, Pamela DeFrancis, Ellen Green and Carol Urbano, her brother and sister in-laws, as well as many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her nephew, Jeffery Shapiro and niece, Ann Cubeta.

Barbara was a devoted wife and a loving mother and grandmother. There was nothing she was more proud of than her children and grandchildren. They are her pride and joy. Barbara loved to travel, spend time at the beach in Cape Cod, sew, crochet, read and garden. She enjoyed spending her free time with her grandchildren, attending their soccer and basketball games and other school events. Barbara was a kind neighbor, a loving friend, and a generous woman. She opened her heart and her home to family and friends, donated her time to her parish, believed in the power of prayer and had a soft spot for animals, especially her beloved dog, Babe. Her laughter, smile and warmth will be missed by all who had the privilege to know her.

Family and friends are invited to calling hours on Monday November 22, 2021, from 4 to 8 pm at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, CT 06450. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, November 23rd at Our Lady Queen of Angels Parish, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 109 Goodwill Ave., Meriden at 12 p.m. Everyone is asked to meet directly at church. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Meriden Humane Society, 311 Murdock Avenue, Meriden, CT 06450. I lost touch with Barbara around 2014 . She and I were friends in Glen Hills...back to first grade. We walked to school together. She and I often went to the store with her dog (I just cannot remember his name tonight) to get supplies for our parents. My mom moved us out of Glen Hills when I was in the 8th grade. After college I went into the military Barbara and I stayed in touch until 2014 or so... she crocheted 2 beautiful blankets for my babies which I still have, and we visited when I came to CT a few times. I lost touch with her when my life was not the best ... and then when I decided to google her to rekindle our friendship recently I was shocked to find and read this wonderful tribute. I just want to share with her sisters and her family that she was an amazing friend and always sent me positive notes, positive stories, and beautiful pictures of her family. My heart breaks for you all. I want you to know that beyond your local friends, there are folks who knew your mom and share your pain. Sending you Hugs and Love.
