Carole Scarfo
Carole Scarfo, 80, died on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at the Hospital of Central Connecticut, New Britain after a lengthy illness. Born in Meriden, CT on June 26, 1944, she was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Longo) Scarfo. She was a lifelong resident of Meriden.
Carole attended Central CT State College and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in 1966 and then her Master of Science degree in 1970. She began her teaching career in 1966 at West Haven High School teaching Business Education for a year. The next 41 years, she taught in the Wethersfield School System as a Comprehensive Special Education Teacher (PK - 12th). She also taught Business Education (7th - 12th) and was a Reading Specialist. She taught many different age groups and subjects including special education.
She was the representative for the Teacher's Union and was nominated for Teacher of the Year in 2001 and then awarded Teacher of the Year in 2003-2004. Carole's role as a mentor and leader for both students and colleagues was a remarkable accomplishment showing unwavering dedication and devotion to the profession she loved. A 41-year teaching milestone exemplifies the passion and commitment she had throughout her career.
She also worked for several years at G. Fox & Co., Filene's & Macy's in the fine jewelry department, retiring in 2007.
She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Meriden. She was a devout Catholic and served as a Eucharistic Minister and also served on the Board of Directors at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
Carole was a world traveler visiting many US cities and countries throughout the world, two of her many favorites being Italy and Singapore. She was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her nieces and nephews who she treated as if they were her own children.
Carole is survived by her sisters, Regina DiDomenico and her husband Tony of Meriden, CT and Nancy Esposito and her husband Joe of Murrells Inlet, SC; and her brother-in-law, Robert Gustafson of Kensington, NH. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, John Gustafson-Scarfo and his wife Michelle, Mark Gustafson, Bob Gustafson and his wife Robin, Melissa Lombardi and her husband Bill, Amy Lombardi and her husband Ronnie, Joe Esposito and his wife Kelly, Sal DiDomenico and his wife Shari and Anna Motta and her husband Mike; and her great-nieces and great-nephews, Marcello and Gianluca Scarfo, William and Avery Lombardi, Rocco Lombardi, Anthony and Nicholas Esposito, Ryan Gustafson, Vincenza DiDomenico, Sarah Abad and Michael Motta. Also left to cherish her memory is an uncle, Nicholas Scarfo and his wife Jeanne and many cousins and friends, especially her dearest friend, Anita Daniels.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Betty-Jane Gustafson and her great-nephew, Andrew DiDomenico.

Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main St., Meriden, CT 06450, on Monday, June 30th from 9 to 11 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of Angels, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 109 Goodwill Ave., Meriden, CT 06451.
