NISKAYUNA, N.Y. - Charles L. Fields Jr., 93, of Niskayuna, N.Y., passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, June 18, 2016, at Hospice care in Albany, N.Y.

Charles was born in Wallingford, Conn. on Oct. 25, 1922, to the late Charles and Evelyn Fields and was predeceased by his brothers, Kenneth Fields and Alfred Fields. Charles was married to the love of his life, Barbara Johnson Fields, for 55 years prior to her death in 2006; he was a devoted husband and father. He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. Charles was also an avid golfer and donated his time to several community organizations in Wallingford, and Washington, N.H. Prior to his retirement he was employed by the town of Wallingford as a tax collector.

He leaves behind his loving children, Charles R. Fields (Gail deceased on April 7, 2016), Deborah (Lawrence) Frey, Sandra Derouin (Jeff Shapiro) and Cheri (Robert) Woodfield; his sister, Elaine Andersen; sisters-in-law, Claire Fields, Ursula Fields, and MaryAnn Johnson; and his dear friend, Katherine Washburn.
Charles is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, of whom he was incredibly proud, Eric (Jill) Frey, Brenda (John) Chapman, Arthur (Jennifer) Derouin, Troy Derouin (fiancée, Amanda Fremgen), Robert (Jennifer) Woodfield, and Brian (Casey) Woodfield; and his eight great-grandchildren, number nine due in December.

His family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all the personnel at Brookdale Assisted Living in Niskayuna, N.Y., and the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany, N.Y.

Burial will be held on Saturday, July 9, at 11 a.m. at the East Washington Cemetery followed by a memorial service at 12 p.m. and reception at the Washington Congregation Church in Washington, N.H.
