Chester Richard "Chet" Chmura

CHESHIRE - Chester ( The Big C ) Richard Chmura, 90, died March 17, 2007, at McLean Home in Simsbury going to join his beloved "Lilly" for St Patrick's Day. The longtime resident of Cheshire was instrumental in establishing Kiwanis clubs in both Ireland, and Adak, Alaska, organizing the Cheshire High School Boosters Club, and announcing their football games for 30 years. He spent over 20 years as a district administrator in Little League, and was elected into the CHS Sports Hall of Fame in 1998. Chet was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was married to Lillian (Callahan) Chmura, for 59 years. He is predeceased by his wife, his daughter, Caroline, and his eldest son, Richard, After retiring to Florida in 1988, Chet became the Vice Mayor of Belleair Beach, Florida.
Chet is survived by his son and daughter in law, Jack and Penny Chmura of West Suffield; his daughter-in-law, Pamela Chasse of Plymouth, Mass.; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. The family would like to thank the staff at McLean for making his last days peaceful, especially Doris and Holly.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Bridget's Church, 175 Main St., Cheshire, on Friday, March 23, at 11 a.m. Friends are asked to meet directly at the church prior to the Mass. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum in Waterbury at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. The Slater Funeral Home, 242 So. Main St., Cheshire is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to make memorial contributions to the Cheshire Boosters Club, c/o of Cheshire High School, 525 So.
