David Holstein Obituary

David Holstein, 78, of Cornwall-on-Hudson, died Feb. 1, 2013, at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh.

He was born April 9, 1934, in the Bronx to parents Morris and Esther Holstein, according to Quigley Bros. Funeral Home, which handled his funeral arrangements and published his obituary.

He worked for many years with IBM beginning in 1959 at its Endicott facility. He worked on top-secret government technology programs. He retired in 1986 as vice president within IBM's entry systems division, which manufactured the IBM personal computers.

After a year of returning to school to acquire his post-master's graduate certification in psychotherapy and counseling, Holstein opened The Hudson Center in Cornwall-on-Hudson, providing family systems support and psychotherapy counseling. He also served on the board of Mount St. Mary's College and was board president of Cornwall Schools. He was a eucharistic minister.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Anita Morell Holstein; a daughter, Carrie Addessi and her husband, Richard, of Tappan; a son, Christopher Holstein of Cornwall-on-Hudson; a brother, Solon Holstein of California; a sister, Sharon Fingerhut of North Carolina ; and three grandchildren, Tina and Salvatore D'Amico, both of Valley Cottage, and Jake Addessi of Tappan.

Holstein was preceded in death by his eldest son, Gregory Holstein, in 2010.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Feb. 5 at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church in Cornwall-on-Hudson. Burial followed at St. Thomas Cemetery.
