Edward Lewczyk Obituary
Edward A. Lewczyk, 86, of Newington, beloved husband of the late Josephine (Smolack) Lewczyk, died at Bel Air Manor May 14, 2009, after a long illness.
He was born Nov. 30, 1923 in New Britain, one of four children of the late Alexander and Anna (Pek) Lewczyk. He was a graduate of the University of Connecticut and was an electrical engineer, employed by Combustion Engineering of Windsor until his retirement in 1988. He served four years in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of St. Mary Church and the Polish American Club where he was a past treasurer. In his younger years he coached his son David's baseball and basketball teams. A lover of Polish dancing, he and Josephine traveled to numerous polka festivals making many friends along the way.
He is survived by his son, David Lewczyk and his wife, Donna, of Berlin; his daughter, Janine Lewczyk Teti, of Newington; his son-in-law, Joseph Panetta, of Plainville; his sister, Florence Lyons, of Kensington; his six grandchildren, Jessica and Steven Lewczyk, Matthew and Gina Teti, and Alicia and Kyleigh Panetta; his brother-in-law, Edward Popielarczyk, his sister-in-law, Margaret (Peggy) Smolack, both of Newington; his longtime friend, Attilio Merlino, of Newington; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by the love of his life, Josephine Lewczyk; his daughter, Jennifer Lewczyk Panetta; his son-in-law, Bruno Teti; and his siblings, John and Marian Lewczyk. The family would like to thank the staff at Bel-Air Manor for their loving and compassionate care of Edward.
The funeral was held May 22, 2009, at the Newington Memorial Funeral Home, Newington, followed by a Mass at St. Mary's Church, Newington. Burial with military honors was in West Meadow Cemetery.
