Eugene Segaline Obituary

Eugene J. Segaline Sr.
July 3, 2024
Eugene J. "Ziggy" Segaline Sr., 93, of Wallingford, passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2024.
He was the devoted husband of the late Anita M. Segaline.
Eugene was born in Middletown, CT on June 1, 1931, the son of the late John and Mary (Villa) Segaline. He was a Korean War U.S. Air Force Veteran, serving in Japan as an airplane mechanic. He received two honorable discharges, active duty and the reserves.
Following his military service, he was employed by Stanley-Judd Company, where he met his "Bugsy", Anita. They were married on October 20, 1956.
He continued his career as a tool and die maker for Hitchner Manufacturing until retiring in 1979, in which he started his own partnership business, BETA Tool, located on East Center Street, Wallingford. He then worked at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft for 5 years before settling in a sole proprietorship appropriately named, GENCO Tool, located at Norman Avenue. He enjoyed working in his own shop. It wasn't just a place of business, but a gathering for friends and family. He retired from GENCO Tool at the age of 75.
Eugene also kept busy, repairing lawn mowers and tending to his home, which he took great pride in. He enjoyed gardening, golfing and the great outdoors. It would not be uncommon to see him around local fishing spots rod in hand or catching a round of golf at Lyman Orchards. You might also have caught him at Colony Diner or Athena's having a bite to eat. He enjoyed quiet afternoons on his sun porch, watching his Yankees or an evening cigar. Spending time with family was most important to him, afternoons or early mornings with his son, Gene, and grandson, Gene III, or memorable trips out west to see his brothers, Frank, Joe and John. He had a special soft spot for his grand and great-grandchildren as well, all 34 of them. Nothing made him smile more than to kiss one of his canuties! He was so loved and will be so missed.
He is survived by his loving children, Deborah Laccone (Steven) of Clinton, Eugene J. Segaline, Jr. (Cheryl) of West Haven, Lisa M. Williams (Wayne Paulsen) of Wallingford, Amy B. Martin, (Conrad Vinkels) of Coventry; his 13 grandchildren, Michelle Laccone, Stefanie Thach, Jennifer MacDonald, Kevin Laccone, Eugene J. Segaline, III, Michael Segaline, David Segaline, Lyndsey Dodge, Emily Williams, Matthew Williams, Michael Williams, Erica Martin and Zachary Martin; 20 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Dorothy (Segaline) Gresto, Margaret (Segaline) Bryk and Lena (Segaline) Chippio; his brother, John Segaline; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Louis Segaline, Louise (Segaline) Fanning, Lena Segaline, Frank Segaline, and Joseph Segaline; his son-in-law, Mark J. Williams; and his grandson, Mark P. Williams.
The family would like to thank all of the healthcare workers from MidState Medical Center and the entire staff at The Landing, located at Clintonville Road, North Haven, for the wonderful care and compassion they exhibited to him over the past year and a half. Special thanks to his aid, Patty Ann Mittlehozer.
His family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext., on Thursday, July 11, 2024, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., when the funeral cortege will proceed to Most Holy Trinity Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Interment with military honors will follow in St. John Cemetery in Wallingford. Gifts in his memory may be sent to: Wounded Warriors Project ( www.woundedwarriors.org ).
