Francis Buckholz Obituary

SOUTHINGTON - Francis R. Buckholz, 95, husband of 70 years to the late Doris (Semler) Buckholz, died peacefully on Wednesday, June 10, 2015, at his home in Milldale.

Born in Meriden on March 19, 1920, he was the son of the late Francis J. and Mary (Ames) Buckholz. In his youth, Francis was a Drum Corp Major for the Meriden Washington Park Drum Corp. He honorably served in the U.S. Army during World War II, with the 733rd Field Artillery Battalion assigned to Patton's 3rd Army, throughout France, Belgium and Germany. He retired from Silver City Glass Company and became active in antique shows throughout New England with his wife Doris. He also was the proprietor of the Nutmeg Glassware Repair Shoppe in Meriden. He resided in Milldale for over 60 years.

He is survived by his daughter, Gwen Smith; a son, Jack Buckholz and his wife, Mary Ann; three grandchildren, Bethany Buckholz, Sarah Smith and Josh Smith and his family, Jackie and Jonathan; and a great-granddaughter, Mya. He is also survived by his son-in-law, Richard Smith; a special cousin, Maureen Schappert, of Meriden; and many cousins; nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 16, at 10:30 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden and at 11 a.m. at St Rose of Lima Church for Mass of Christian burial. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home, prior to the service on Tuesday from 9 to 10:30 a.m.

The family would like to express special thanks to his angel Mila (Lyudmila) Lipkin, who provided him home care for almost two years.
