James Carroll Obituary

James William Carroll Sr., 75, of Middletown, died Feb. 24, 2013, at Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown.

He was born June 14, 1937, in Bronxville to parents James L. and Veronica (McGuinness) Carroll, according to Donovan Funeral Home, which handled his funeral arrangements and published his obituary.

He served in the U.S. Air National Guard of New York from 1957 to 1963. He was a New York City police officer and retired from the 44th Precinct in the Bronx. He was member of NYPD 44 Forever Club and 1013 Club, Rockland County, and a member of the Middletown Elks Club. After retiring from the NYPD, he owned and operated Scotchtown Farm in Middletown, raising and racing thoroughbred horses.

Survivors include his wife, Maureen F. Carroll; three sons, Daniel Carroll and his wife, Melissa, of New Jersey , Richard Carroll and his wife, Caitlin, of Tarrytown and James W. Carroll Jr. and his wife, Debbie, of Cary, N.C.; two daughters, Elizabeth "Beth" Toombs and her husband, Philip, of Poughquag and Veronica Harrison and her husband, Eric, of South China , Maine ; two stepsons, Louis Coppeto of Middletown and Thomas Coppeto of Boston; three sisters, Anne Conway of Mount Kisco , Mary Alice (Toodles) McCombe of Yonkers and Veronica "Vera" Norton of Lake Bluff, Ill.; two brothers, Thomas Carroll and his wife, Rose, of Tucker, Ga., and Michael Carroll and his wife, Darlenem of Wykliffe, Ohio ; a stepbrother, Fred Janes and his wife, Sandy, of Madison, Ohio; nine grandchildren, Heather, Christopher, Jordan , Justin, Kaitlyn, Zachary, Hannah, Garrett and Emily; and many nieces and nephews.

His funeral took place Feb. 28 at Donovan Funeral Home Inc., 82 S. Church St., in Goshen , with the Rev. James Gould officiating. Burial followed at Orange County Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Goshen.
