John Maier Obituary
He was born on Sept. 26, 1934, the son of the late Herbert and Mildred Larson Maier and was a lifelong Meriden resident and spent much time in Flagler Beach, Fla. He attended Meriden schools, graduating from Meriden High School and attending UConn.
Mr. Maier was a veteran of the U.S. Army, former owner of L&J Gulf on East Main Street and owned Maier Real Estate with his wife Theresa, since 1959. He was elected to be Region No. 6 vice president of the Connecticut Association of Realtors in 1973, and served as president of the Central CT Board of Realtors. Mr. Maier was chairman of the Meriden Zoning Board of Appeals, served on the Meriden City Council as an Alderman in the 1970's, he was also a long time Yankee and UConn basketball fan, an avid vintage car collector and a member of the Meriden Civitan Club.
Besides his wife of 54 years, Theresa Couture Maier he is survived by his children, John J. Maier, Jr. and his wife, Nancy Thompson Maier and Sandy Maier Schede and her husband, Ernest Schede; grandchildren, Kathleen Maier, John T. Maier and Jaclyn Schede; and his pet dog "Duke."
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, June 18, at 11 a.m. at Walnut Grove Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Should friends desire, contributions in his memory may be made to a Humane Society of one's choice. The John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, is in charge of arrangements.
