John Markow Obituary

John Markow, 79, of New Britain, died June 27, 2007, at home after a long illness.
He was born in Poland, and in 1940 he was taken with his family to Russia, where he attended Polish Cadet School. In 1945 he joined the Polish Army in Scotland and served with the allied forces. After World War II he settled in England with his family and in 1954 he immigrated to New Britain, where he became an active member of the community. He retired from Fafnir Bearing Co. and was a member of Sacred Heart Church and the Olympia Soccer Club. He was a member of the General Haller Post, Polish Army Veterans, where he served as commander for over 20 years.
He is survived by his son, John G. Markow, of New Britain; his daughter, Yvonne Markow, of Colorado; his two brothers and a sister, Tadeusz Markow, of Newington, Wladyslaw Markow, of Plainville, and Josephine Szozdowski, of Plainville; his stepsister, Stanislawa Blago, of Canada; several nieces, nephews, cousins; and many friends. He was predeceased by his wife, Bozena (Kesek) Markow.
The funeral was held June 30 at New Britain Memorial Sagarino Funeral Home, New Britain, followed by the liturgy at Sacred Heart Church. Burial with military honors was in Sacred Heart Cemetery, New Britain.
