John Swedock Obituary

John A. Swedock, Sr., 78, passed away on Monday, March 29, 2021 at St. Francis Hospital.

Born on January 17, 1943 in Meriden, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Slusarczyk) Swedock. He attended St. Stanislaus Parochial School and Platt High School where he was senior class president. He was a graduate of Georgetown University and later, the Naval Officer Candidate School at Newport R.I. John proudly served in the United States Navy as a Lieutenant aboard the USS Herbert J Thomas during the Vietnam War. After discharge, he worked as a manager for the Cigna Corporation from where he retired. John was a real people person. He enjoyed his frequent trips to Shop & Shop where he was always able to chat with a new friend. In his neighborhood, John was known as the Mayor of QBD. He frequently visited with neighbors and kept an eye on everything. He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan before switching to the New York Yankees. He also enjoyed watching UCONN and Georgetown men's basketball. His daily routine of telephone calls to his sister and brother in Meriden increased with frequency when South Windsor and Meriden became toll free. Most important to John was spending time with his family, especially his beloved granddaughters.

Mr. Swedock is survived by his son John A. Swedock, Jr. and his wife Barbara; his daughter Ava M. Reed and her husband John all of South Windsor; his sister Justine M. Swedock and brother David T. Swedock both of Meriden; five cherished granddaughters: Maya and Sydney Swedock, Rayna, Justice and Lorelei Reed; his former wife, Eva Swedock and several nephews, cousins and dear friends. He was predeceased by his brother Joseph L. Swedock.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Tuesday, April 6th from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the Stempien Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., Meriden, casual attire and attend his burial with Military Honors in St. Stanislaus Cemetery following the calling hours.
