Joseph LaRosa Obituary

MERIDEN - Joseph (Salvatore) LaRosa passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and friends after a brief illness Friday, June 22, 2007, at MidState Medical Center in Meriden.

Joseph was born in Meriden, on March 19, 1930, to Salvatore and Josephine LaRosa. At a young age he worked with his family doing small masonry projects around the city. He later worked as a truck driver for the International Silver Company, New Departure, and a foreman for National Fence Company. Joseph served his country honorably in Korea as a United States Marine. He often spoke of the lessons he learned in the service and how they helped him in his life. Joseph returned to Meriden after his tour of duty and married his sweetheart, Constance (Tardif) LaRosa in 1956. In 1953 Joseph founded LaRosa Construction Co., Inc. Over the years with the help of his wife and children he built a thriving company. To this day he remains active president. Joseph served as a former member of the Meriden Inlands/Wetland Commission, a life member of the Unison Club, Elks Club, North Italian Club, Knights of Columbus, and the New England Garden Conservancy. He also supported many projects at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and School. One of Joseph's great passions was gardening. His garden was his pride and joy and was featured for many years on various Garden Club Tours throughout New England. He was also featured many times in the Record-Journal. Joseph was an exceptional man, loving husband, caring father and dear friend who will be greatly missed. "A tall tree in the forest can never be replaced."

Joseph is predeceased by his beloved wife, Connie, a son (James) of three days, his parents Salvatore and Josephine LaRosa; and a brother, John R. LaRosa who gave his life bravely at a young age in World War II. Joseph is survived by his three children, John and Ruth Ann LaRosa, Joseph and Lori LaRosa, and John and Jenine (LaRosa) Monthei. Joseph was a proud grandfather of seven beautiful grandchildren, Joseph LaRosa Jr., Hilary LaRosa, Abigayle LaRosa, Martina Monthei, Siena Monthei, Carley LaRosa, and Nicholas LaRosa. Joseph is also survived by a brother, James LaRosa of Meriden; many dear friends; relatives; and employees.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial on Tuesday, June 26, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Burial with military honors will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main St., Meriden on Monday, June 25 from 3 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Our Lady of Mount Carmel School, 115 Lewis Ave., Meriden, CT 06451.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at MidState Medical Center. They made a "difficult" situation bearable, not only for Joseph, but for all the family members and friends. We appreciate their efforts and are grateful for their compassion. www.jferryfh.com.

I will always remember Joe's robust vitality, his great generosity and love for his family, but most of all - with regard to the context in which I knew him best - his great artistic creativity. The outdoors and natural materials were his palette and paints, and he used his hands and his imagination to create a wonderland that gave many people much pleasure. I will never forget his kindnesses and will always remember him happy in his garden.

Joe,

You were "one in a million", a proud man. If someone was in need of a smile, you gave him yours. If someone lacked wisdom, you gave him yours. With no consideration for yourself, you've always had the time for someone else.

You and the "love of your life" produced three wonderful children that have grown to carry on with your extraordinary qualities.

I am grateful for the honor to have known you and benefited from your ingenuity for the better part of twenty-five years. I will especially cherish my fond memories of you during the days at Lettuce Pleezu!

My thoughts and prayers will forever be with John, Joey, Jenine and the rest of the clan.

Rest easy, my friend... all is well!

on the passing of your Father, I know he will be deeply missed. He was a good friend and great supporter of our Cancer support group here in Van Buren. My visits to Meridan will not be the same anymore without Joe around.

Jenine, John and Joey,
I am so sorry for your loss. Your dad was truly larger than life and I always enjoyed chatting with him. We had a lovely conversation at my parents 40th anniversary party last fall. I am thankful for the many years of friendship he and my dad shared. I know my dad will treasure the memories always. You are a wonderful family and my thoughts and prayers are with you all during this very difficult time. May God Bless you and your family and bring you peace.

To John, Joe, and Jeannine, and your beautiful families,

You are in my heart and prayers today.

Uncle Joe was always larger than life for me. He had the biggest hands and I always hated having to shake hands with him as a kid, because mine always got crushed! I think he did it on purpose. :^) I'll always have the fondest memories of your parents.

In sadness, and with much love to all of you,

My deepest sympathy to you all at this sad time, your Dad was the greatest!!!! Very proud to have known him in my life.

When somebody dies, a cloud turns into
an angel, and flies up to tell God
to put another flower on a pillow.
A bird gives the message back to
the world, and sings a silent prayer
that makes the rain cry. People dis-
appear, but they never really go away.
The spirits up there put the sun to
bed, wake up grass, and spin the
earth in dizzy circles. Sometimes you
can see them dancing in a cloud during
the day-time, when they're supposed
to be sleeping. They paint the rain-
bows and also the sunsets and make
waves splash and tug at the tide.
They toss shooting stars and listen to
wishes. And when they sing wind-
songs, they whisper to us, don't
miss me too much. The view is nice
and I'm doing just fine.
- Ashley
