Lawrence Czarnota Obituary

SOUTHINGTON - Lawrence "Larry" Czarnota, 88, of Southington, husband of Dorothea "Dot" (Brause) Czarnota, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010, at the Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain.

A New Britain native and former resident, he moved to Southington in 1961. Larry was a graduate of New Britain High School, class of 1942, and served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a foreman in the industrial hardware division of the Stanley Works, where he worked for 38 years, retiring in 1985. Larry was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Southington; the Southington American Legion Post 72, was past president of the Southington Kiwanis Club, and played football for New Britain High School with the nickname "Bulldog." He was co-creator with his wife Dot of the Zion Lutheran Church famous apple fritters at the Apple Harvest Festival.

Besides his wife Dot, he leaves a daughter, Cynthia "Cindy" Miller and her husband, Robert, of New Britain; several nieces and nephews, including a special grandniece and grandnephew, Lauren and Steven "Popeye;" and great-grandnieces, Rachael and Leah. He also leaves his earth angel "Gerry" Thomas; his faithful dog, Minnie; as well as numerous friends and relatives.

Funeral services are Saturday at 10 a.m., at Zion Lutheran Church, 531 Woodruff St., Southington. Burial with military honors will follow in Fairview Cemetery, New Britain. Calling hours are Friday, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Carlson Funeral Home, 45 Franklin Square, New Britain. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Zion Lutheran Church.
