Leonard Malavasi Obituary

Leonard Malavasi, Jr., 74, departed this life on November 27, 2019 at Midstate Medical Center in Meriden. Brother to Thomas Malavasi, Leonard was born in New Haven, CT, on March 7, 1945, to the late Leonard and Mary (D'Addio) Malavasi, Sr.

Lenny was employed as a US Mailman for over thirty years with the North Haven Post Office. Outside of work though, he led a very impactful life. Since 1982, he was very active in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters organization. Often times he would bring the kids he mentored on all sorts of adventures including skiing, white water rafting and fishing. He also got them involved with team sports. Lenny coached basketball for several years with the Wallingford Parks & Recreation Department and won may championships. His dedication to mentoring went far beyond the organizations he was involved in. He developed many friendships over the years with those he guided and was always proud of each one of them.

Some of Lenny's other joys in life were riding his motorcycle with friends, driving classic cars, skiing, deep sea fishing and racquet ball. He loved Motown music and was an avid fan of the NY Giants, NY Yankees, NY Knicks, Notre Dame Football and UCONN Men's Basketball. Lenny was a friend to many and will surely be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at 10 AM at the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 S. Elm St., Wallingford. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation prior to the service from 9AM to 10AM. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. I worked with Lenny at the Post Office for thirty years , and in all that time I never heard a bad word come out of his mouth to anyone. Lenny was a quiet guy but, if you started talking sports well, his friends know, he loved it!!! He was loved by all, never a bad word out of his mouth, always the Gentleman and he will be missed by many, I'm sure of that and I am truly sorry for your loss.❤

For 13 yrs. Lenny and I were riding partners. We rode thousands of miles together . We rode year round, summer and winter. I never saw him in a bad mood, probably because he loved to ride. He loved to tell me about all his kids, even though he didn't have any children of his own ,he would talk about them as if they were his. I think that he will have a special place in heaven reserved for him.. I am going miss him and the good times we had together ... I loved him like a brother !! RIP Lenny.
