Michael DellaVecchia Obituary

Michael J. DellaVecchia
June 4, 1940 - July 22, 2025
Michael J. DellaVecchia, 85, of Southington, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at the Summit at Plantsville. He was the beloved husband of the late Joyce (Badgley) DellaVecchia, with whom he shared a devoted and loving marriage until her passing in 2019. Born on June 4, 1940, in Southington, he was the son of the late Ralph and Carmelia (Simone) DellaVecchia. A lifelong Southington resident, Michael was a proud family man who built his life around hard work, strong values, and love for those closest to him. Michael is survived by his four sons, Darrin (Susan) of Wallingford, Daniel (Terri) of Southington, Douglas (Dawn) of Killingworth, and Dean (Christine) of Wolcott. He was a cherished "Poppy" to his seven grandchildren, Julie (Nicholas), Dominic, Joseph, Jacob, Katelyn, Luke, and Sarah; and two great-grandchildren, Thomas and Kayden. He also leaves behind his brother, William DellaVecchia, and his wife, Pege; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister, Adele. A loyal and steady presence, Michael cared tirelessly for his wife and remained a constant supporter of his family. He was known for his strong work ethic, his kind-heartedness and for always placing his loved ones above all else. Michael found great joy in raising his family and later, in cheering on his grandchildren at their many events and activities. He had a passion for gardening, baking, especially his family-famous Christmas cookies, and traveling. He and Joyce treasured their vacations, cruises, and winters spent in Naples, FL. Professionally, Michael had a diverse and accomplished career. He worked in the forging and tooling industry, ran his own business, Double D Wood Products, and later contributed his talents to local greenhouses. In the later years of his working life, he served in the funeral home business, where he was respected for his warmth and professionalism. Michael was a proud U.S. Army veteran and a dedicated fan of the New York Yankees, New England Patriots, and UConn Women's Basketball.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered for the love he gave, the example he set, and the legacy he leaves behind. A funeral home service will be held on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington. Burial with military honors will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Calling hours will be prior to the service, 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations in Michael's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 200 Executive Blvd., Suite 4B, Southington, CT 06489.
