Michael Sosnowski Obituary

MERIDEN - Michael E. Sosnowski, 81, died Wednesday May 4, 2011, peacefully, with his family at his bedside at MidState Medical Center. He was the husband of Florence (Gurzenda) Sosnowski, his loving wife of 57 years.

Born in Meriden on July 16, 1929, he was the son of the late Michael V. and Anna (Hawrylishyn) Sosnowski. A life-long resident, Mike attended local schools and was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church. Mr. Sosnowski proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was employed by CL&P retiring after 30 years of service. After his retirement Mike became a currier for Meriden Radiology for 15 years. Mike was a member of the Elks. He, along with his wife Florence, were members of the same bowling league for 50 years. Every morning he read the local paper from cover to cover. Mike followed with great enthusiasm the Yankees, the Celtics, and the UConn basketball teams. In his younger days, he enjoyed playing a round of golf with his sons. He was also a great pool player. Most important to him was the love he had for his family. "Our Dad never missed one of our games. He was our greatest fan." Mike treasured his time with his grandchildren and enjoyed working in his yard.

Besides his wife Florence, Mike is survived by his four sons, Michael and his wife Laura, of Maine, David and his wife Beth, of Calif., Daniel and his wife Tammy Fiorillo, of East Hampton, and Matthew and his wife Suzanne, of Haddam, CT; two daughters, Kathleen Woods and her husband Donald, of Morris, and Susan Sosnowski of Rocky Hill; a sister, Josephine Doron, of Meriden; five grandchildren, Jennifer Woods, Amanda Woods, Leah Sosnowski, Benjamin Sosnowski, Dutch Sosnowski; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Stanley Sosnowski, and two sisters, Wanda Carabetta and Barbara Rutkowski.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Tuesday May 10, 2011, from 4 until 8:00 p.m. at the Stempien Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., Meriden. His funeral will be celebrated, Wednesday May 11, 2011 at 9:15 a.m. from the Stempien Funeral Home when the funeral cortege will process to St. Stanislaus Church for a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian burial.
