Peter Holt Obituary

Peter John Holt, 73, of Prospect, passed away unexpectedly, Monday, April 11, 2022. He was the beloved husband of Eleanor (Fiori) Holt. Peter and Eleanor just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Friday, April 8th, three days before his passing. He was born in Boston, MA, on May 17, 1948, the son of the late Arthur A. Holt and Alice B.(Gutman) Sweetnam. He proudly served his country in the United States Coast Guard during the Vietnam era.

Peter graduated from Nasson College in Maine with a bachelor's degree in Political Science. He spent his career as a Cosmetic Packaging Executive and was a member of the Cosmetic Industry Buyers and Suppliers (CIBS) for over 30 years. He was also a past Board Member and coach for the Meriden Soccer Club. Peter would commute to the city multiple times a week for work and often times Eleanor would accompany him. They would enjoy their evenings together going to dinner, concerts and other events. They also enjoyed nature hikes and observing the surrounding birds and wildlife.

Peter was an avid golfer, enjoyed pickleball, played in several bowling leagues and was a devoted New England Patriots fan. He was a proud season ticket holder for the Patriots for over 20 years. Family was everything to Peter. While raising their family they took vacations to Florida, the Cape and especially Maine.

Peter and Eleanor journeyed together a path of unspeakable pain when their sons Ryan and later Stephen died during childhood of rare metabolic disorders. They leaned heavily on each other, respected each other's grief and forged an unbreakable bond of love and devotion. Raising and nurturing their daughter Allison brought them so much joy. The blessing of becoming grandparents to granddaughters Danica and Vanessa brought Peter such happiness. Peter leaves a legacy of love, devotion to family; his common-sense approach to complicated issues and problem-solving acumen lives on in his daughter Allison. He will be so terribly missed.

Left to cherish his love and memory are his wife Eleanor of 50 years, daughter Allison and husband Jason Ginsberg and precious granddaughters Danica and Vanessa of Brookfield as well as his furry companion Scarlett. He is also survived by his sisters Suzanne (Carroll) Bray of Georgia and Deborah (Tyler) Blethen of North Carolina & several nieces and nephews.

Peter will be laid to rest with his sons Ryan and Stephen at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Meriden in a private service.

I was a neighbor of Pete. The first day we met we hit it off very well, and I knew we were going to be friends. One experience Pete and I had, was taking the kids trick or treating around our friendly neighborhood. While the kids were getting their treats, we also got treats, which the were adults drinks. All I could say was our wife´s were not very happy with us. We always had a good time.

I would like to express my sincere condolences to Elenor and her family. What beautiful man Peter was. I was glad to call him a friend. I met Peter at a Ravens / Patriots game while tailgating. As soon as I saw his Record Journal, I knew he was also from Ct. Elenor recognized me from Stop & Shop and we all became good friends. Because of Peter, my streak of 39 straight years of attending Pat´s game at least once continued. Peter, you are with our Lord God now. Rest In Peace my friend.
