Rachel A. (Gosselin) Deming, widow of Donald E. Deming, died Saturday, November 8, 2025, at the age of 103.
Rachel was born in Lowell, Massachusetts, on November 1, 1922, the daughter of Omer and Alma (Fournier) Gosselin. They moved to Meriden circa 1925, and she has remained a resident of Meriden throughout her life. Donald and Rachel have 4 children – Janice Deming-Scurto living in Kansas; Donald A. (Linda) Deming, Nancy Deming Travers, and Lynn Deming (Rick) Bassett, all of Meriden.
She has 7 grandchildren: Aaron and Benjamin Scurto; Jeffrey Deming; Bonnie Travers; and Debbie, Jason, and Joey Bryans.
She also has 10 great-grandchildren: Michael, David, Sadie, Noah and Spencer Scurto; Brody Deming; Tyler Bryans; Dyllan and Shayne Bryans; and Jacob Bryans.
She has one younger surviving sibling, Suzanne Avellino, living in New York, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
Rachel loved being active outdoors walking or yardwork until recently or sitting and enjoying the variety of birds she attracted to her yard. During the early retirement years, Don and Rachel traveled the United States by trailer or flying to warm destinations. She was a great cook, but she really enjoyed eating out with her family. She will be missed by all of us - a void that cannot be filled.
Wallingford Funeral Home will oversee the interment at the Middletown State Veterans Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown, Connecticut, where there will be a gathering to show our respect for Rachel on: Monday, November 17, 2025, from 10:00–10:20 a.m.
Following the gravesite gathering, food and beverages will be offered at: 26 Clearfield Dr., Meriden - the home of Donald and Linda Deming.
