Richard J. Karle of East Haven died on Monday November 3, 2025 at his home. Richard was born on January 10, 1964 in Meriden, a son of the late Richard M. and Kathleen Reiman Karle. He is survived by his children Derrick (Jess) Karle and Lindsay Karle (Alan Petrillo), all of Branford; his grandchildren, Ariana Casteel, Hailey and Hunter Karle, his siblings, Daniel Karle of East Hartford, Denise Karle of Wallingford and Sharon (David) Doyle of Florida; his stepsister, Trisha Bugaj; his nieces and nephews, Daniel, Kristen, Kathleen, Chelsea, Landon and Madison; his godchildren Masie and Bobby Hartt and his lifelong friend Steve Hartt.
Rich was a man whose heart beat strongest for his family and the natural world around him. A devoted father to Derrick and Lindsay, and a deeply adoring grandfather to Ariana, Hailey, and Hunter, Rich's greatest pride came from watching his children and grandchildren grow, learn, and thrive.
From a young age, Rich was captivated by nature. He found joy in fishing, camping, identifying birds, and collecting insects. His love for the outdoors was more than a hobby-it was a way of life that he eagerly shared with those he loved most.
Rich's passion for sports was equally profound. He not only cheered from the sidelines but stepped up as a coach for his kids' teams, instilling in them the values of perseverance, leadership, teamwork, and dedication. His encouragement echoed through every practice and game, and his pride in their efforts was unwavering.
A camera was never far from Rich's hands. He documented life, capturing moments that now serve as cherished memories. These photos, once casual snapshots, have become treasured keepsakes that remind us of his warmth, humor, and presence.
Above all, Rich was a teacher-not in a classroom, but in everyday life. He taught his grandchildren to try and try again, especially when learning a new sport. He guided them through the wonders of nature, helping them find comfort in handling bugs and joy in spotting birds. His lessons were gentle, patient, unforgettable, and oftentimes funny. He was so good at making all the kids crack up at random things and had funny nicknames for almost everybody!
We miss our Pop Pop dearly. His absence leaves a space that cannot be filled, but we find comfort in knowing he is no longer in pain. His legacy lives on in the laughter of his grandchildren, the strength of his children, and the countless memories he gifted us.
