Richard Milloy Obituary

Richard Arthur Milloy of Meriden passed away peacefully at home on July 23rd, 2018. He leaves his devoted and loving wife of 43 years Darlene Milloy (nee Hand), his dear son Michael Milloy and daughter-in-law Christina of Burlington, and beloved daughter Jennifer Apuzzo and son-in-law Anthony of East Haven. He also leaves his cherished grandchildren Morgan, Kyra and Malachy Milloy, and James Apuzzo.

Richard was born in Meriden in 1945 and lived there all his life. He was a graduate of Francis T. Maloney High School (1963) and received his bachelor's degree from University of Hartford. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War as a Civil Engineer. He was retired from the State of Connecticut where he was employed for 38 years. He was a lifelong member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Meriden until its closing. Richard was an avid fisherman and gardener who loved the outdoors; a great friend and neighbor who always offered a helping hand, and also loved classic cars and comedy films. He loved to laugh and make people laugh. The family wishes to thank the staff of Hartford HealthCare at Home for their kindness, compassion, and support.

His family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Saturday, August 4, 2018, from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. A Celebration of Life will follow at 12 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to: Hartford HealthCare at Home @https://hartfordhealthcare.org/donate

We are sending our sincere sympathies to you, Darlene, and your family on your loss. My (Susan) memories are many going back to a very young boy who my brother and I knew as a close friend and playmate ("Richie" ) through adulthood (Dick") who became a truly fine man, husband, father and grandfather. My memories are many and treasured.
He will be missed .

Darlene, Michael and Jennifer. As a second cousin growing up with your husband and dad, I knew him by many names. From the days when he was known as Richie to Rich to Dick and to Richard, he was the same lovable guy. Seven years my senior yet we always got along well from the holiday get togethers as kids to altar boys at All Saints and even a little later in life as we went fishing on one occasion. He was the real deal. We flew balsa wood airplanes and kites together. We played Bocci at picnics. There was always a sense of respect for him as the older cousin but none so great as when Uncle Sam called him into service during Vietnam, and the demeanor in which he attacked boot camp and beyond, he kept after it. While life took me in different directions in later years, when we got together it was as if we had just seen each other yesterday rather than the year or two that it really was. Richard and Darlene were god parents to my son Eric for which I am very grateful. I am sorry that we didn't live closer but my memories of my time with him are special and will never leave me. He will be sorely missed. God Bless you all.
