Having moved to Charlotte NC years ago I was saddened to hear about Bob Clancy's passing. In my youth I was very close to Bobby and spent good time's at the Clancy home on Spring St.. The whole family was great. Bobby and I played many years of sports together, and had a lot of fun. I remember when he and Joe Gorley enlisted in the navy together, and remember the summer at the park when he met Sheila. Good folks. Rest in peace Bob! John Popieniek

To Sheila, Jack Doreen and Family:
My Heartfelt sympathy goes out to you In the unexpected loss of Bob. He was my Buddy My Friend...
I met Bob at 8 years old, when all the neighborhoods came together in the early 50s, at Bronson Ave Park.
There were Many many baseball games as we were in the city parks league Playing against Washington Park, Columbus Park etc. Winning most of them..
Bob was gifted in sports with knowledge and physical ability be it baseball, basketball, track...
We became very close friends during this time and remained best of friends through life, even as life took us in different directions.. Bob worked as a short order cook at "Bills" on the corner of Cook and Summer.. Also known as the corner, and we known as "The Corner Boys".. Generations passed through the corner and even some of the teachers we had at Platt. While at Platt Bob and I joined the Navy at 17and Soon after Platt went on Active Duty..
While at the Brooklyn Naval Yard they needed 7 men to go to a Naval air base in Sanford Florida.. As luck would have it Bob and I got the orders at the same time to report to
RECON HEAVY ATTACK SQUADRON-9. A squadron of 5 highly sophisticated aircraft..
It wasn't long before we were deployed to the Mediterranean aboard the USS Saratoga.
After coming home for a short stay at our home base Naval Air Station in Sanford, we got orders to go to the West coast on the USS Ranger, and on to Vietnam.. Bob earned the Navy Unit Commendation Medal while there as I by the Secretary of the Navy..
Bob and I kept in touch from time to time over the years Playing golf in Florida, Naval Reunions, and Lunch at Meg O'Mallys Irish Pub.
In seeing him only 3 weeks ago we talked about hooking up and catching up on old times..
So as a Navy salute to a fallen shipmate and friend I Say
"To Bob, On your final journey home , May you have Calm Winds and Following Seas. Sail on Sailor Sail on".
So many memories
Your Buddy your Friend
