Robert Nalewajek Obituary

Robert A. Nalewajek
July 10, 1940 - January 16, 2025
Robert Nalewajek (Bob), son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, teacher and friend, passed on January 16, 2025.
Bob was born, lived, worked and raised his family in Meriden. He moved to Florida in 2012 with his beloved wife, Maureen, where they enjoyed the warmer weather.
He was born July 10, 1940, to Adeline and Alfred Nalewajek. He attended St. Stanislaus School and graduated from Meriden High School in 1958. Bob graduated from CCSU and later received his master's from Fairfield University. He taught math at Maloney High School for thirty-five years.
Bob married his high school sweetheart, Maureen, in 1962 and together they raised three daughters, Christine, Sue and Debbie. Bob loved playing cards with the guys, fishing and gardening (he was known for his green thumb). His favorite role in life was that as a grandparent. He was lovingly called "Pa" by Matt, Christopher, Ryan, Michael, Erin and Nikki. He loved vacationing in Charlestown, RI, with his family.
From St. Stan's school years, Bob and Dave Kowalski were the best of friends. They spent many good times growing up together and throughout their lives along with their wives.
Bob was predeceased by his parents, Adeline and Alfred Nalewajek, his sister, Patricia Bauman, brother-in-law, Robert Szymaszek Jr., father and mother-in-law, Walter and Nellie Silocka. He is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Maureen (Silocka) and his daughters, Christine Crandall, Susan McNally (John), Debra Bitinaitis (Randy), sister, Diane Szymaszek, grandchildren, Matthew Crandall (Colleen), Christopher Crandall, Ryan and Michael McNally, Erin (Bitinaitis) Matsuk (Viacheslav), Nicole Bitinaitis, great-grandchild, Miles Matsuk. Also, brothers-in-law, John Bauman, Tom Silocka (Marilyn), sister-in-law, Diane Rhodes (Hal), and nieces and nephew.
Services will be private. If you knew Bob, please take a moment to remember him and know that to those who loved him "He was the best." Do a small act of kindness for someone in his memory.

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of Bob. He was a quiet man with a kind soul. We taught together at MHS for 29 of his 35 years. I started out teaching math for a few years and Bob was an unofficial mentor to me. Bob was so easy to approach and so willing to offer help. Mr. Nalewajek your family was lucky to have you as a member. Rest in peace my friend, rest in peace!

So sad for the family for the loss of my favorite homeroom teacher. He will certainly be missed by many! I was deathly shy, and Mr. Nalewajek was always so kind and understanding, treating me with respect. He was a quiet man that must have understood mine. I remember once something happened and he offered words of encouragement to me that were so greatly appreciated. I see why you want others to offer acts of kindness in his memory. He was a kind, gentle man! I honestly thought about him often though the years. May the Lord be with you all at such a difficult time. I pray the wonderful memories of a special loved one who had to touch so many lives will fill you all with peace. May you be blessed with God's peace that surpasses all understanding!

Dear Maureen and family,
I am saddened to hear of Bob´s death. I remember him so well from Maloney as a kind, quiet man who had so much knowledge. He was everyone´s go-to expert on all kinds of gardening issues. I remember his passion for African violets (which I never was able to keep alive).
He was a good man who touched the lives of so many. I wish his family peace.

I had Mr. Nalewajek for Algebra 1 and 2, using the overhead projector to teach daily lessons. He frequently mentioned the "Guzinta Tables." That was his humorous reference to division-- 7 goes into 21 = 3 ... or... 4 goes into 32 = 8. He also ran the Maloney Rifle Club.

My sympathy and condolences to Diane and the Nalewajek family.
During my school years at Maloney Class of 67 I did not have Mr. Nalewojek as a teacher, I did have him as a basketball coach my freshman year at Maloney.

I will always remember my second dad making pickled eggs and vegetables and spending hours in his beautiful garden. He was always tinkering with something. He was one of the kindest men I knew. I´m lucky to have had him in my life. All my sympathies and love go to the family and friends who will miss him so dearly.
