Scott Otwell Obituary

MERIDEN - Scott H. Otwell, 84, husband of the late Shirley E. (Habershon) Otwell, died on Sunday, Dec. 11, 2011, at Middlesex Hospital.

He was born June 30, 1927, in East Point, Ga., a son of the late Scott H, and Della (Attaway) Otwell Sr. Scott went to Russell High School where he was a member of R.O.T.C. his entire time there. After high school he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and caught the last fifteen months of World War II. When the war ended he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard, and was stationed in Boston, where he met his wife Shirley and married in 1948. In 1949 he moved to Meriden where he spent the next 62 years. Scott was an electrician by trade, but ended up being a teamster from where he retired in 1978. During retirement Scott became a rather good dancer, and has trophies to verify it. He also had a passion for golf and was a member of Lyman Meadows Golf Club for thirty years. Scott's ability to make people laugh, along with his own cry of laughter will be missed.

A special thanks to his best friend, Jadwiga for making his last fifteen years a joy for him.

He is survived by a son, James Otwell and his wife, Hayley, of Plano, Texas; a brother, J.T. Otwell, of Georgia; three grandchildren, Trevor, Amelia and Collin; and two step-grandchildren, Jaime and Skyler. He was predeceased by a daughter, Lynn Stagon Otwell; a son, Scott F. Otwell; and two brothers, Harold Otwell and Dewey Attaway.
A graveside service with military honors will be held on Saturday, March 10, at 11 a.m., at Walnut Grove Cemetery, Meriden.

In lieu of flowers donations in Scott's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Ct., 2075 Silas Deane Highway, Suite 100, Rocky Hill, CT 06067. The Beecher & Bennett-Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden has been entrusted with the arrangements.
