Thomas Sheridan Obituary

NORTH HAVEN - Thomas F. Sheridan, 73, of North Haven, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 25, 2017, after a prolonged illness. He was the beloved husband of 40 years to Dayle Hicks Sheridan.

Tom was born in New Haven on Dec. 2, 1943, son of the late Thomas F. Sheridan, Sr., and Annette Haas Sheridan. Tom served in the U.S. Army Reserves, obtained a bachelor's degree from Quinnipiac College and a master's degree from the University of New Haven. Tom worked for the Southern New England Telephone Company for many years before becoming the director of audit technology, assistant vice president at the Hartford Insurance Company. His passion was ice hockey, and he was also an enthusiastic UConn women's basketball fan. After retirement he devoted himself to coaching Guilford High School Girl's Ice Hockey and Girl's Lacrosse for Hamden Hall Country Day School. Tom enjoyed gardening, always taking great pride in his home landscape, and also enjoyed travel and photography. He took special pleasure in all of his grandchildren, and savored watching their achievements as they grew.

He is survived by his loving wife, Dayle, his daughter Kelly Sheridan-Freischlag, her husband, Scott, and their children Taylor, Madison, Kendal, Buddy, Riley, Nathan and Trenton; his daughter, Carrie Swenson, her husband, Bryan, and their children, Jack and Courtney; his son, Scott Sheridan and his wife, Bei Zhang; and his daughter, Stacey Rozas and her husband, Jonathan, and their son, Keaton.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Tom's primary caregiver Melody Yusif Abruquah for her many months of patient and compassionate care. The family will forever be grateful.

Funeral services were conducted in the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Ave., Friday, April 28. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Operation Smile, Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care, or the Lewy Body Dementia Association.

Dayle, Stacey and Scott, I was saddened to hear of Tom's passing. We had such great times at the Hartford. I often recall our discussions and debate. He was one of my most favorite people.

I have many great memories of Tom when we worked together at SNET. They send a smile to my face when I think of the times we had, as we had fun working together. Sending my deepest sympathy to Dayle and family. God Bless you.

Dale and Stacey,
I am so very sorry for the loss of "coach". From the first time meeting him, then spending time with Dale, and of course. ..daughter coach Stacey who stepped in when needed....It was like we knew you forever. The bond my twins girls had the first freshman meeting, was a man that they loved like a dad.
I can't begin to put into words how the whole in your hearts must feel. Please know you 2 and your entire family will forever be in our hearts. Thank you for sharing a wonderful, caring man with my girls and myself.
Love and hugs

May his family and all that mourn his loss find peace in their memories of him.

God's Peace to all.
