Vincent Pellegrino Obituary

Vincent T. Pellegrino, 92, died November 29, 2022 in Wallingford, CT. He was the beloved husband of Frances (Capes) Pellegrino for more than 68 years. Vince was born in The Bronx, NY in 1930 and grew up in Livingston Manor, NY. He was the son of the late Vincent J. and Helen (Drahosh) Pellegrino. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sister Rosemarie Pellegrino of Bay Shore, NY; four children: Thomas of Wallingford; Ellen of Sewickley, PA; Robert (Elizabeth) of Collegeville, PA; and Sarah (Vincent DiGioia) of Wallingford; grandchildren: Nicholas (Meghan), Hannah and James Pellegrino; nieces and nephews: Helena, Vincent, Nicholas (Donna) and Frank Pellegrino; Michael Capes and Marlene (Robert) Bettin; Lars (Lori), Noel and Thor Ekstrom; Kimberly Stenske, Katherine, Leighanne and Shannon Capes. He was predeceased by his brother Frank Pellegrino of Freeport, NY. Vince proudly served as a Paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division. He spent nearly 30 years in the Army Reserves, retiring as a Lt. Colonel. Mr. Pellegrino earned a BS in Finance from Siena College, Loudonville, NY. He began his career with CIT Finance in New York City and later retired after many years with the Connecticut Development Authority, Rocky Hill, CT. He volunteered with Boy Scouts Troop 12 for several years. Vince was an avid military history buff and antique car enthusiast. He lovingly kept the first new car he ever bought, a 1954 Oldsmobile 88 "in original, unrestored condition" throughout his life and enjoyed many driving trips and car shows. He will be remembered well and dearly missed by all. The family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street Ext., on Tuesday, December 6th from 9:00-10:30am. A Mass of Christian Burial will then be celebrated at 11:00am at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 382 Hope Hill Rd., Wallingford. Burial with military honors will immediately follow in St. John's Cemetery, Wallingford.

I was saddened to learn that Mr. Pellegrino had past. I have fond memories of the Pellegrino family from my childhood in the neighborhood. I remember Mr. Pellegrino’s big smile, the aroma of his pipe when I would play at their house, and the adventures we kids had in their back yard. My sincere condolences to his wonderful family.

I'm saddened to learn this news. Mr. Pellegrino was the epitome of a nice guy and good neighbor. I remember always being impressed if one happened to catch sight of him in his military uniform. A wonderful family man. Sympathy and condolences to his friends and especially to his fine family.

I grew up on Ridgenoll Rd and couldn't ask for a better neighborhood. The Pellegrino's were a huge part of my childhood. Mr. Pellegrino did a lot for our family. He helped when a pipe burst and stopped me from backing out of my driveway into a car. I never heard Mr. P yell before and I immediately stopped. My father sent me to the Pellegrino's when we had a chimney fire. Mr. P went to see if he could help my dad. My brother Jim still tells stories about all the places he took him and Robbie. Mr. Pellegrino was the best neighbor and a wonderful man. Rest in Peace.

Very saddened to hear the news of the passing of my uncle Vince, he was also my godfather, and a political ally. I have many childhood memories of family vacations in Connecticut and his visits to Upstate New York.
He will be missed by the Capes and Bettin families.

To Mrs.Pellegrino and the Family,
I was sad to read of Mr.Pellegrino’s passing. He was, the family as well, good neighbors for many years. My father enjoyed talking with him many times as he would take his daily walk up the street. On the nice days we also enjoyed seeing his car come out of the garage and drive past our house. Both he and my father would give hearty waves to each other as they passed as true car guys do. My last conversation with him was at a senior center car show a few years ago. I was really impressed to hear that he still had the Oldsmobile.
You all have our most heartfelt condolences, may he rest in piece.

So so sad to hear this news. I have such wonderful memories of growing up on Ridgenoll. From Mr. Pellegrino’s amazing bedtime stories (Sally, Pally and Mally), to car rides in the old car, beetle traps, dinners with vegetables I had never heard of, screaming at cars going too fast, that adorable giggle he had. What a wonderful life loved. Feel fortunate I was a small part of it.❤❤❤
