Miss Melaven was my second grade teacher! She was a wonderful, kind and inspiring lady! She was one of the reasons that I became a teacher! My deepest condolences are with her family and friends!

Wait, this obituary seems to eclipse so much information about her life. She was my second-grade teacher; she warmly accepted me into her classroom when I was still escaping the fear of being returned to Catholic school; and she taught me how to tell time, when I was so far behind my grade knowing how to do that. She was the first teacher who taught me how to love by loving me, and I loved her back. Had I any idea that she was still present after all of these years, I would have sought her out and told her so, and given her many hugs and kisses. Mary Callahan
