Allison Herrick Obituary

Allison Gilbert (Weed) Herrick passed away April 23 at White Plains Hospital in New York State after courageously battling cancer.
Allison, daughter of Berneice (Pope) and Maurice J. Weed, earned music degrees from Oberlin College and from New England Conservatory in Boston. She married Walter Herrick in 1967. Walter and Allison settled in Needham, MA, in 1978 where she devoted herself to being a wife and mother. In 2004 a career opportunity for Walter brought them to Westchester County, NY.
Allison shared her beautiful singing voice with many listeners over the years. Highlights of her performance career included a 20+ day tour of the Soviet Union and Romania in 1964 with the Oberlin College Choir and several summers as a member of the Tanglewood Festival Chorus. A person who sewed her whole life and an ardent knitter for the past 20 years, Allison delighted many family and friends with her marvelous, intricate, functional creations.
In addition to her parents, Allison is predeceased by infant daughter, Beverly Jane, and by sister, Laurice (Weed) Rich.
She is survived by her husband Walter of Hawthorne, NY, and their son, Daniel (Eduardo Rojas) of Jamaica Plain, MA, as well as brother-in-law, Norman Herrick (LuAnne); sister-in-law, Lillian Herrick; brother-in-law, Samuel Rich (Marilynn); nieces, Erin (Rich) Strickland (Chris) and family, Sarah (Rich) Emmerich (Kit) and family, Stacey (Herrick) Barnes (Kevin), and nephew Robert Herrick (Lea Derrick).
A family graveside service was held at Center Cemetery in Bernardston.
A memorial service is planned at Valhalla UMC, Valhalla, NY, on Sunday, May 4, at 3 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Cancer Society.
Arrangements are by Hawthorne (NY) Funeral Home with assistance from Kidder Funeral Home, Northfield, MA.
