Andrew Vivier Obituary

Andrew Vivier

Turners Falls, MA - Andrew (Andy) T. Vivier, beloved father, son, brother, and friend, born November 7, 1959, passed away in the company of his loved ones on June 3, 2025 after a courageous two-year battle with cancer. Andy faced his illness with strength and grace, cherishing time with family and very supportive friends.

Andy leaves behind his loving family: daughter Kristi Grimaldi and her husband Nick, with their children Kai, Anthony, and Dominic of Enfield, CT; best friend and dedicated care giver, son Nick Vivier of Greenfield, MA; daughter Carrie Allen and her partner Chris Kathan, with their sons Isaiah and Lucas of Guilford, VT; and son Clay Kelley and his partner Victoria Shell of Ohio. He is also survived by his mother, Judith Pierce (late husband Bud Pierce) of Shelburne Falls, MA; sisters Helen Hurley and Anne Morrison (husband Scott); brothers Michael Vivier (wife Suzanne), Steven Vivier, and James Vivier (wife Karyn); as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, and stepsiblings from the Pierce and LaFleur families. Andy also leaves behind the love of his life, supportive girlfriend and co-adventurer Sue Quinn. Andy was predeceased by his father, Francis Vivier (wife Gloria Vivier of Granby, MA).

Andy retired from the very supportive Demers Landscaping, a special thank you to Justin Demers and Jen Corridan for setting up a fundraiser to aid Andy. A skilled craftsman, Andy spent many years in carpentry and construction, including his own business, Andy's Carpentry. He contributed to significant projects across New England; notably, he played a key role in the renovations that created Gateway City Arts in Holyoke, MA, and installed the iconic atrium windows at Hotel Northampton while working for Pella Windows. Prior to Pella, Andy took a road trip to California with friend Steve Samal, where he worked as a security guard at a housing complex in Chula Vista. He also worked at Strathmore Papers in Turners Falls, a job requiring many long days and nights mixed with boating adventures on the Connecticut River.

Andy's education began in East Brookfield and Greenfield, MA schools, he was in the first graduating class of Franklin County Technical School in Turners Falls. A lifelong sportsman, Andy was an accomplished archer and had many fond memories of Vermont "deer camp" feasts and Brimfield archery contests alongside longtime friends Paul Demers, Bob Emond, Josh Emond, Ron Hardy, Bill Smith, and Larry Dennett. He had great golf outings with longtime friends Kim and Jody Stebbins.

A special thanks to Bob Emond, Paul Demers, Ron Hardy and Bob Liebenow for the support, many rides and visits, also thank you to Teddy Kelley, Clay's Mom, for the kind visits and support.

I wished I had the opportunity to know Andy better. It was always a pleasure to talk to him and enjoy the moment. I never heard a unkind word about him.

Such a kind and lovely man with a warm heart and nothing mean at all in him, and also great courage. Family is everything.
