David Duprey Obituary

David Duprey

Barnardston, MA - David W. Duprey, 69 of Bernardston, MA died Saturday, May 13, 2023 at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, MA surrounded by his family. He was born in Greenfield, MA on December 15, 1953, the son of Norman and Elizabeth "Betty" (Brightman) Duprey. David was a graduate of the Dublin School in Dublin, NH in 1972. He then attended Greenfield Community College, and graduated from Stockbridge School of Agriculture and attended the University of Massachusetts. In 1979 he married the former Deborah Barton. He owned and operated Sunbrite Farm in Bernardston and owned West Mountain Fence Co. He was a founding member of Our Family Farms Milk Co-op, retiring in 2020. He was also a member of the Massachusetts Dairy Farm Association, Agri-Mark Milk Co-Op, and a member of the Bernardston Agriculture Commission. In 2003 his farm was awarded the Green Pastures award at the Big E for the state of Massachusetts. The farm was also awarded the Dairy of Distinction from Massachusetts Farm Bureau. Dave loved farming and one of his greatest pleasures was taking one of his girls (a cow) to a grocery store to promote dairy and see the excitement on the kids' faces. With his love for farming he has mentored a lot of people. His other passion was music. He attended Woodstock and you could always count on him being at Strange Creek, Wormtown and the Green River Festival for the whole weekend every year.

He is survived by his wife Deborah of over 40 years, and his daughters: Aimee Cairney and her husband Jeffrey of Millis, MA, Kimberly Duprey of Franklin, MA and his son, Nicholas Duprey and his wife Chantelle of Bernardston, MA. He is also survived by his grandchildren Crosby, Shea, Duncan, Allison, Maddison, Brooklynne, Jaxon and Lilliana, and his brothers; Mark and his wife Kristen, and Michael and his wife Vickie.

A celebration of his life will be held later in the year on top of his field with the beautiful view we cherish.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office Regional Dog Shelter, 10 Sandy Lane, Turners Falls, MA 01376.

Kidder Funeral Home, 1 Parker Ave, Northfield, MA is in charge of arrangements.

Deb and family,
Please accept my deepest condolences for your loss. I'm stunned by the news of David's passing and so very sorry. Dave and I first met as 8th grade day-students at Bement; mischief ensued for many years. May his memory be a blessing.

Dave was a class act!
One evening after milking I managed to run the rinse water into the bulk tank. Instead of going ballistic, he had me dump the milk and wash the tank. Having said that, the next time I milked, there was a safety switch installed.

We are very sorry to hear of David's passing. Our thoughts are with Debbie and her family. We met Dave & Debbie when Our Family Farms was started and spent many years working with Dave. He was always surprising us with this wide range of things he was interested & informed about. Rest in peace.

I´ve known David for 46 years. Aways smiling, always willing to share a few moments, positive, upbeat. Wow, can´t believe he´s gone so young. My thoughts go out to his lovely wife Deborah and the rest of his family and friends. RIP David. This world desperately needs more people like you.

I met David about 25 years ago. I asked him if I could hunt his land. He was so gracious and said of course you can hunt this farm. Always greeted me with a smile whenever I would ask for permission again. One of the nicest guys I ever had the opportunity to meet. God bless him for his smile (always) and his generosity. I will miss him.

David was a great guy. Always laughing and making the best of every situation. I will always remember teaching him how to climb back on his tractors during our therapy sessions. That will FOREVER be one of my favorite moments in my career. Definitely gone too soon. Sending hugs and healing thoughts your way.

To the Duprey Family- I'm so sorry to hear of David's passing. I kept my horse up at the Rice's for years and saw him often, usually on his tractor bringing a big round bale of hay for the ponies. He ALWAYS had a smile on his face. He was a hell of nice guy, gone much too soon. My thoughts are with you all.
