Edith J. Corse

Conway, MA — Edith J. (Coller) Corse, 91, formerly of Shelburne Falls Rd., passed away Thursday, August 26, 2021 at Linda Manor Assisted Living in Leeds.

Edith was born in St. Petersburg, FL on December 13, 1929 the only child of Roy E. and Esther M. (Gunn) Coller. She graduated from Greenfield High School as a member of the class of 1948.

Her first employment out of high school was with New England Telephone in their offices in Greenfield and then moving to Washington, D.C. from 1948 to 53. From 1954 to 59, Edith became a switchboard operator at Deerfield Academy before going back to the telephone company from 1959 to 64. Her career then returned to Deerfield Academy in The Registrar's Office from 1964 until her retirement in 1993.

In her free time Edith was a member and Past Noble Grand of the Sylvan Rebekah Lodge #87 in Greenfield for many years. She was also a member of the Conway Congregational Church for several years.

She also enjoyed family gatherings and researching family history with her husband Robert "Bob" Corse and as an only child, was happy to have extended family through him. Sadly, Bob predeceased Edith in 2016.

Survivors include a brother-in-law Malcolm Corse and his wife Winona of Conway, nieces Barbara Whitehouse and partner Joseph Dodd of Ashfield, Leslie Brown and partner Thomas Synnott of Erving, Lois Corse of Iowa, Elizabeth Kelly and partner Justus Conant of Easthampton, nephew Raymond Corse and wife Betty Ann of Columbia, TN, and three additional generations of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, Edith was predeceased by brother-in-law Edward Corse, sister-in-law Avis Whitehouse, niece Shirley Whitehouse Bacon in 2014 and nephew Malcolm Corse, Jr. in 2016.

Services will take place Thursday, Sept. 9 beginning with an hour of visitation at 10:00 am followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am, all taking place at the Smith-Kelleher Funeral Home, 87 Franklin St., Greenfield. Burial services will follow in Howland Cemetery in Conway.
