Gladys L. Skerry

Gladys L. (Holmberg) Skerry died Monday, April 22, 2013, in Williamsburg, Virginia. Formerly of Malden and South Deerfield, Massachusetts. Beloved daughter of the late C. Bertil Holmberg and Edna (Spiller) Holmberg. Devoted wife for 57 years of the late Thomas J. Skerry. Loving mother of Thomas J. Skerry, Jr. and his wife, Christina Doyle, of Medford, MA; and Janine E. Skerry and her husband, Edgard I. Moreno, of Williamsburg, VA. Cherished grandmother of David A. Skerry and Peter O. Skerry. Dear sister of Mae E. Ellis of Farmington, NH; Marjorie A. Corrigan of Rockland, MA; Shirley J. Briggs of Edmond, OK; and the late Bertil R. Holmberg of Melrose, MA. Sadly missed by Peter E. Skerry, Dorothy Skerry, Claude Ellis, John Corrigan, Patricia Caffrey, Helena and Edgard C. Moreno, Cyril Doyle, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends throughout New England, Virginia, and Ireland.
"Glady" was born in Worcester, Massachusetts on July 22, 1923. A 1941 graduate of Malden High School, she worked as a secretary for several companies and firms throughout Greater Boston, and for the Internal Revenue Service.
She was wonderfully dedicated to her husband and children, and to ensuring that her home was always a happy place, whether in Malden, South Deerfield, or Williamsburg. She enjoyed reading, traveling, cooking, sewing, listening to the radio, and tracing her family's Swedish and Irish ancestry. Her lovely voice, singing softly all through the house, will long be remembered.
Calling hours will be held on May 19 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Weir-MacCuish Funeral Home, 144 Salem St., Malden. Funeral Mass on May 20 at 9:00 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant St., Malden. Interment on May 21 at 2:00 p.m. at Brookside Cemetery, South Deerfield, MA.
