Marie E. Campbell

Greenfield, MA - Marie E. Campbell, aged 85, of Pierce Street in Greenfield, MA, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 30, 2024, at Baystate Franklin Medical Center. Born on October 5, 1938, in Greenfield, she was the daughter of William and Mary (Zagata) Wallner.

Marie graduated from The Franklin County Public Hospital School of Nursing in 1959. After graduation, she was instrumental in leading the nursing team of the first Intensive Care Unit established at the hospital. She also dedicated many years as a Registered Nurse at the Associated Surgeons of Greenfield before retiring.

Known for her cheerfulness, selflessness, and unconditional love and wisdom, Marie found joy in helping others. In her leisure time, she loved gardening, sewing, antiquing, and embarking on adventurous road trips with her sisters Carol, Ginny, Joanie, and sister-in-law Amanda. She also enjoyed hosting family gatherings and was famous for her award-winning pies.

Preceded in death by her beloved husband of sixteen years, James Campbell, as well as her brother Bill Wallner of Guilford, CT and sister Carol Wandeloski of Greenfield, MA. Marie is survived by her son, John Campbell and his wife Christine of Sunderland; her daughters, Susan Herbst and her husband Eric of Newport, RI, and Margaret Scarborough and her husband Kevin of South Deerfield; as well as her four granddaughters, Haley, Shelby, Rachel, and Kaitlyn, and several nieces and nephews. Marie also leaves her sisters Ginny Wesoloski of South Deerfield, MA and Joan Wenzel of Shelburne, MA.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 11, at 1 PM at Calvary Cemetery, Wisdom Way, Greenfield, followed by a memorial gathering at her home at 63 Pierce Street.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions in her honor may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
