Mark 1953-2021 Obituary

Mark T. Marceau 1953-2021

Wendell, MA — The Wendell hills have grown quiet as spirited drummer and enthusiastic music lover Mark Marceau has died.

Mark died on November 3, 2021 at the Quabbin Valley Healthcare Center with his niece Danielle by his side. He was 68 years old.

Born August 5, 1953, alongside his twin brother Frank, to Margaret D and Romeo C Marceau in Montague, MA, Mark grew up on Chestnut Street in Turners Falls and graduated from TFHS. In his younger years he was a fine baseball player and led the little league in home runs two years in a row. But it was after he started playing the drums that music became his passion. At first it was rock in which he played drums in a couple of local bands, but later in his life he became more interested in blues and jazz. His greatest joy came from having his music buddies come up to his property in Wendell to jam the day away, much to the regret of the local deer and bear population.

Mark worked for many years in both the railroad and paper industries, and later ran a handyman service from his home - and handy he was, able to build and repair just about anything. He built his whimsical home in the woods bordering Wendell State Forest. Mark travelled through life with a very sensitive soul, which along the way garnered him many close friendships.

Mark is survived by his brother Steve and partner Marcia, nieces Danielle, Melinda, Robin, Rebecca, and Christy. He was predeceased by his mother and father, his brother Frank, sister Patricia, and sister-in-law Gale Ann.

Mark's family and friends would like to give a special thank you to his nieces Danielle Marceau and Robin Whitcomb, as well as close friends Bernice Tuttle and Mike Slahetka for their loving care and health advocacy over the last three years.

Per Mark's request there will be no services. His ashes will be spread at special locations at the family's convenience.

I didn't know Mark was ill & I hadn't bumped into him in awhile. It's a shock. I'll always think fondly of his memory for the little bit I knew of him. I was expecting to jam with him again at some point!
