Raymond McMahon Obituary

GREENFIELD - Raymond L. McMahon, 83, of Shattuck Street, passed away peacefully after a short illness on Tuesday (2-11-14) at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.
He was born in Greenfield on May 30, 1930, the son of Raymond and Gladys McMahon. He attended local schools in Greenfield and was a graduate of Greenfield High School.
He was a United States Navy veteran serving as a Gunner's Mate aboard the USS McGown during the Korean Conflict.
Ray was a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service retiring at the age of 59, after close to 30 years of service.
Ray and his loving wife, Arlene, shared a passion for camping, which they enjoyed with their children as they were growing up. Ray and Arlene continued to enjoy camping and extensive traveling across the country together after Ray's retirement. Ray also enjoyed working around the house and being his own handyman. He always looked forward to spending time with his family and he will be sadly missed.
Among his survivors, Ray leaves four sons, David McMahon and James McMahon, both of Greenfield, Bob McMahon and his wife Sylvia of Bernardston and John McMahon and his girlfriend Karalee Bassett of Greenfield; a brother, Donald McMahon and his wife Sue of Ludlow; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Ray was predeceased by his beloved wife of 57 years, Arlene A. (Dufraine) McMahon on Sept. 17, 2009; two sons, Kevin P. McMahon on June 30, 2001, and Paul D. McMahon on April 23, 2013, and a grandson, Zachary J. McMahon, on June 15, 2002.
Funeral services will be held Monday (2-17-14) at 8:15 a.m. from the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal St., Greenfield, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 at Blessed Sacrament Church with the Rev. Timothy J. Campoli, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Greenfield.
Calling hours will be held Sunday afternoon from 1 to 3 at the funeral home.
