Robert Telega Obituary

Robert S. "Bob" Telega, Sr.

Leverett, MA - With great sorrow the family of Robert Telega announce his peaceful passing on August 20. Bob was born on December 27, 1939 in Sunderland, MA, as the second child of Steve Telega and Minnie (Discawicz) Telega. His sister June (Telega) Gianetti and his brothers Teddy and Billy Telega predeceased him. His remaining sister Kathy Goodrich lives in Hatfield, MA.

Bob joined the Marine Corp straight out of high school at the age of 17 and served for 3 years of active duty. Soon after his return he began working construction, eventually joining Laborers Union Local 596. He spent a majority of his time as a concrete foreman for Daniel O'Connel & Sons and retired after nearly 40 years in the union. During this time, he met Linda Frost of Amherst and they married in 1964, moving to Leverett. They had two boys together, Robert Telega Jr and Steven Telega, both of Sunderland. Bob and Linda divorced in 1983 and Bob continued to raise his two boys.

Bob was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to fish whether it was through the ice, on a boat or from the shore. He was passionate about hunting-especially for deer and especially with his two sons "Duke" and "Steff" He was an excellent shot with any firearm and enjoyed bowhunting greatly. He was known for wearing camouflage pants wherever he went.

He loved American history and had a tremendous appetite for learning. He often commented that in a different life he would have been a history teacher.

He was a skilled baseball player as a youth, starting as a Freshman at Amherst Regional High School and he was exceptional in the local softball circuit as an adult.

He enjoyed his friends, telling stories and an occasional Miller Lite.

Bob should be remembered as a fun-loving, hardworking, tough outdoorsman.

Most of all he should be remembered for being a great father and best friend to his two boys.

Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial celebration of Bob at the Polish American Citizens Club in South Deerfield, MA, on Saturday August 26.

Food will be served at 1pm.

Going to miss your visits when you rode through on your 4-wheeler checking for mushrooms. Give Teddy a big hug for me. Love you.
