Shirley R. Matusz

1932 - 2021

Shirley R. (Sopollec) Matusz, 88, of 56 G Street, Turners Falls, died Monday 1/25/2021 at home, surrounded by her family. She was born in Montague on March 14, 1932 the daughter of Stanley and Jane (Brunelle) Sopollec. She graduated from Turners Falls High School in 1950.

Shirley was a housekeeper at the Farren Memorial Hospital for forty years before her retirement in 2016 at the age of eighty-four and was beloved by both patients and staff. Shirley was a member of the St. Kaziemerz and St. Stanislaus Societies in Turners Falls.

Shirley enjoyed baking, Polka, her word search puzzle books, the Red Sox, and the Patriots. She loved watching her children and grandchildren's sporting events. She especially enjoyed frequent neck rubs from her buddy Red Dog.

Shirley is survived by her sister Joyce Deskavich of South Deerfield; two sons, Brian Matusz and Mark (Patricia) Matusz, both of Turners Falls; two daughters, Brenda (Roger) Ozdarski of Turners Falls and Darlene (Mike) Fahey of Easthampton; her grandchildren: Nathan Matusz, Derek Matusz, Tara Matusz; Megan Vigliarolos, Moriah Fahey, James Fahey and Joshua Matusz; five great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Shirley was predeceased by her longtime companion, Stanley A. Zaikowski; and four siblings, Elizabeth Hanley, Albert Sopollec, Loretta (Savinski) Kirk and Stanley H. Sopollec.

Funeral services will be private. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. A celebration of life will be planned at a later time.
